이번 대회는 올해 봄 경북지역 대형 산불로 인한 상처를 치유하고 침체된 지역 경제에 활력을 불어넣기 위해 산림청과 경상북도, 영양군이 공동 주최하고, 영양군체육회와 대한오리엔티어링연맹이 주관했다. 산악마라톤과 오리엔티어링 등 2개 산림레포츠 종목으로 진행됐다.

산악마라톤은 자작나무숲에서 오전 10시 시작돼 전국에서 모인 380명이 6km와 10km 코스로 나뉘어 경쟁을 펼쳤다. 오리엔티어링은 오후 1시부터 반딧불이생태공원 일원에서 140명이 참가해 지도와 나침반을 활용해 숨겨진 지점을 찾아가며 신체활동과 두뇌회전을 동시에 요구하는 색다른 스포츠를 경험했다.

오도창 영양군수는 “영양군에서 산림레포츠와 같은 뜻깊은 대회를 개최하게 되어 기쁘다”며 “이번 대회를 통해 산불 피해를 극복하고, 참가자 모두가 건강하게 즐기는 축제의 장이 되었길 바란다”고 밝혔다.

The mountain marathon began at 10:00 a.m. in the birch forest, with 380 participants from across the country competing in 6km and 10km courses. Orienteering began at 1 p.m. at the Firefly Ecological Park, with 140 participants using maps and compasses to navigate hidden locations. This unique sport required both physical activity and mental stamina.

Yeongyang County Mayor Oh Do-chang said, "I am delighted that Yeongyang County is hosting such a meaningful event as the Forest Leisure Sports Festival. I hope this event will help overcome the damage caused by the forest fire and provide a healthy and enjoyable festival for all participants."
