하얀 눈이 온 세상을 뒤덮는 겨울, 민족 최대의 명절인 설날이 얼마 남지않았습니다.

오랜만에 온 가족이 모여 온기를 나누는 설 명절을 앞두고, 그 따뜻함을 오래 유지하기 위해 가정의 안전을 먼저 돌아보아야 합니다.

설레는 마음으로 고향을 찾을 때, 잊지 말아야 할 통계가 하나 있습니다. 지난 한 해 경북도내에서 발생한 총 3,129건의 화재 중 주택화재는 782건으로 가장 큰 비중을 차지했습니다. 이로 인해 18명이 소중한 목숨을 잃었고 76명이 부상을 입었으며, 약 81억 원이라는 막대한 재산 피해가 발생했습니다.

이 통계는 주택화재가 우리 생활과 얼마나 밀접하게 맞닿아 있는지, 그리고 한순간의 부주의가 사랑하는 가족의 행복을 얼마나 쉽게 앗아갈 수 있는지를 보여줍니다. 하지만 숫자가 전하는 이야기가 모두 비극적인 것은 아닙니다. 주택용 소방시설 덕분에 화마를 피한 희망의 사례도 존재합니다.

실제로 지난 8월, 구미시 구평동의 한 단독주택에서 발생한 화재 당시, 집 안에 설치되어 있던 단독경보형 감지기가 제 역할을 톡톡히 해냈습니다. 화재 발생 직후 감지기가 날카로운 경보음을 울렸고, 이를 들은 거주자가 신속히 대피하면서 자칫 인명피해로 이어질 수 있었던 아찔한 상황을 막을 수 있었습니다. 이 사례는 주택용 소방시설이 단순한 장비가 아니라 주거 안전의 첫 번째 파수꾼임을 다시 한번 증명해 주었습니다.

이 시설들은 대형마트나 인터넷을 통해 저렴하고 쉽게 구입할 수 있으며 설치 방법도 매우 간단합니다. 세대별·층별로 소화기를 1개 이상 비치하고, 거실과 침실 등 구획된 실마다 단독경보형 감지기를 하나씩 설치하는 것만으로도 우리 집의 안전 등급은 비약적으로 상승합니다.

구미소방서에서도 시민의 안전을 위해 구슬땀을 흘리고 있습니다. 지속적인 홍보 활동은 물론, 지역 기업과 연계하여 사회취약계층을 대상으로 소화기 보급과 단독 경보형 감지기 설치 및 안전 컨설팅을 실시하며 화재 피해를 줄이기 위해 총력을 기울이고 있습니다.

포근한 설 명절, 가족과 함께 웃음꽃을 피울 수 있는 것은 우리 집이 '안전한 장소'라는 믿음이 있기 때문입니다.

These systems are readily available at affordable prices at large supermarkets or online, and are also very simple to install. Simply installing at least one fire extinguisher per unit and per floor, and installing a standalone smoke detector in each separate room, such as the living room and bedroom, will dramatically improve the safety of your home.

The Gumi Fire Department is also working tirelessly to ensure the safety of our citizens. In addition to ongoing promotional activities, we are working with local businesses to distribute fire extinguishers, install standalone alarm detectors, and provide safety consulting services to vulnerable populations. We are making every effort to reduce fire damage.
