【브레이크뉴스 경북 성주 】이성현 기자=남부내륙고속철도에 성주역이 개설될 가능성이 커졌다. 국토교통부가 28일 내놓은 ‘남부내륙고속철도 전략환경영향평가서’에 성주역이 포함된 것.

총 사업비 4조 7천억원을 들여 김천에서 성주, 합천, 진주와 고성 통영,그리고 거제를 잇는 단선철도사업인 ‘남부내륙고속철도 건설사업‘은  2022년 착공해 2028년 개통 예정이다.

이 사업은 2019년 1월 29일 국가균형발전위원회가 예비타당성조사 면제사업으로 선정･발표하면서 사업이 본격적으로 추진되었지만 발표 이후, 정부는 지역에 승객･여객 운송이 가능한 일반역이 아닌 신호장 설치 내용이 포함된 사업계획을 발표해 논란을 키웠다.  특히, 성주군과 고령군이 역유치에 과다한 행정력을 소비하면서 두 지역의 갈등으로까지 번졌다.

특히 성주군은 성주역 유치에 사활을 걸고 모든 행정력을 집중, 다른 경쟁 지자체보다 빠른 ‘성주역 유치단’과 ‘범군민추진협의회’를 결성해 중앙과 지역의 여론을 선점했다.

성주군은 “집행부와 성주군의회가 의기투합, 직접 중앙부처와 국회를 뛰어다니면서 성주역 건립의 당위성과 절박성을 설득하고 건의해왔다”면서 “5만 군민과 20만 출향인 및 모두의 피나는 노력들이 금일 좋은 결과로 이어졌다”고 말했다. 

이병환 성주군수는 “남부내륙고속철도가 성주의 갈등을 치유하고 과거와 미래, 지역과 도시를 연결하는 구심점이 되길 기대한다.”며, “지역 최대 미래전략사업인 만큼 역세권 개발, 사통팔달 광역교통망 확충, 관광자원 개발 등 세부 전략을 구상할 계획이고, 기 추진 중인 ‘성주군 중장기발전계획 수립 연구용역’에 위 사업을 최우선적으로 반영하고 향후 기본계획 후 ‘역세권 개발 타당성 조사 및 기본계획 수립 연구용역’을 추진할 예정”이라고 말했다.

한편, 평가서(초안)의 공람은 12월 28일부터 다음해 1월 26일까지 20일간 성주군청 안전건설과에서 진행될 예정이며, 이와 관련한 주민설명회는 오는 1월 7일 성주군청에서 개최될 예정으로 알려졌다.
