【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=한국가스공사(사장 채희봉)가 태국 발전회사인 TPIPP(Thai Petrochemical Industry Polene Power), 한국서부발전과 ‘태국 송클라 GTP(Gas to Power) 사업 협력을 위한 MOU’를 체결했다.

지난 3일 코로나19 확산 방지를 위해 온라인 화상회의로 행사가 진행된 가운데 박영권 가스공사 신성장사업본부장, 한상문 한국서부발전 사업본부장, Prachai Leophairatana TPIPP 회장이 참석해 태국 송클라 GTP에 대한 MOU가 체결되었다.

송클라 GTP 사업은 태국 남부 송클라(Songkhla) 지역에 LNG를 조달하고 터미널과 발전소를 건설하는 대형 프로젝트로, 2016년 태국 정부가 이곳을 특별경제구역으로 지정함에 따라 TPIPP社가 가스공사에 공동 사업 개발을 제안한 것으로 알려진다.

가스공사는 국내외 LNG 사업에서 쌓은 경험과 노하우를 활용해 LNG 조달 및 터미널 건설·운영을 담당하며, 서부발전과 함께 금융 조달도 주도할 계획이며 TPIPP는 현지 인허가 등 리더사 역할 수행 및 사업 운영에 참여하게 된다. 

가스공사 관계자는 “안정적인 신규 해외 LNG 수요처 확보를 통해 신규 수익원을 창출함과 동시에, 건설·금융 등 관련 분야에 국내 기업이 동반 진출할 수 있도록 적극 지원할 계획”을 밝히며 “아울러 경제 활성화 및 상생협력의 장을 마련해 나갈 방침이다”고 말했다. 

또한 “이번 태국 송클라 프로젝트를 계기로 해외 신흥국 GTP 시장 진출 확대를 위한 교두보 구축에 주력하겠다”는 입장을 전했다. 

한편, TPIPP社는 석유화학 플랜트 운영, 건설자재 제조·판매, 에너지 사업을 추진하는 TPI그룹의 자회사로 태국 내에 총 440㎿용량의 발전소를 운영하고 있다.
