대구광역시의회(의장 장상수)가 24일 오후 대구시의회 간담회장에서 한국남동발전의 LNG발전소에 대한 건설계획 철회 촉구 성명서를 발표했다.

현재 달성군 국가산단에 추진되고 있는 LNG발전소는 대구 달성군 구지면 대구국가산업단지 내 약 14만5천㎡ 부지에 총 사업비 1조4천여억 원을 투입해 설비용량 1200MW급의 발전소를 건설하는 사업이다.

대구시의회는 성명서를 통해 LNG발전소 사업이 가장 큰 이해당사자인 주민들이 제대로 알지 못한 상태에서 추진되었고, 많은 시민들이 LNG발전소로 인해 발생할 미세먼지와 질소산화물 등으로 인한 환경오염을 우려하고 있으며, 인근 지자체인 창녕군의 우포늪 등 소중한 생태자원이 훼손될 우려가 있는 점을 들어 사업 추진에 문제를 제기했다.

그러면서 대구시의회는 대전시가 지난 2019년 6월 ‘주민들이 원하지 않고, 지역사회에 부정적인 영향을 끼친다’는 이유로 LNG 발전소 건설 계획을 중단했던 것을 예로 들며 조속한 사업철회를 촉구했다.

아울러 “시민이 제대로 알지도 못하고, 원하지도 않으며, 실익도 없는 LNG 발전소 건설은 누구를 위한 것인가”라고 말하며, 사업의 주체인 한국남동발전과 주무부처인 산업통상자원부를 향해 LNG발전소 건설계획을 즉각 중단할 것을 촉구하고, 이해당사자인 대구시에 대해서도 공식적 반대의사를 표명할 것을 강력히 요구하였다.
