국립농산물품질관리원(농관원) 경북지원은 농수산물 원산지 표시에 관한 법률 위반 혐의로 A씨를 구속했다고 밝혔다.

농관원에 따르면 A씨는 2020년 1월부터 올해 2월까지 외국산 축산물 13톤(4억 원 상당)을 국내산 한우와 국내산 돼지고기, 국내산 닭고기로 속여 매장을 찾아오는 불특정 소비자에게 판매한 것으로 드러났다.

피의자 A씨는 이전(2016년, 2018년)에도 두 차례 수입 축산물을 국내산으로 원산지를 둔갑하여 판매한 죄로 벌금에 처해진 동종전과가 있는 자로서 단속되면 사업장을 폐업하고 또 다른 장소에서 범행을 지속해 왔다.

그는 매장 판매대에 외국산과 국내산을 같이 진열하고도 원산지는 국내산만 표시해 소비자를 속였고, 외국산 구입 영수증을 고의로 숨기고 장부에 기록도 누락한 혐의를 받는다.

경북농관원은 농산물 명예감시원으로 편성된 '주부감시단'을 활용해 저녁 장보기 시간 매장을 방문, 판매 중인 축산물 시료를 채취해 단속했다.

경북농관원 김동환 지원장은 “단속원이 활동하는 낮 시간대와 주중에는 국내산을 판매하다 저녁 장보기, 주말 시간대에는 수입산을 판매하는 행위가 빈번히 발생하고 있어 소비자의 주의가 필요하다"며, "육류소비가 증가하는 행락철을 맞아 원산지 둔갑사례가 더 있을 것으로 보고 단속을 강화할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

이어 “소비자들도 대형마트, 전통시장, 식육점 등 다양한 경로를 통해 축산물을 구입할 때에는 원산지를 반드시 확인하고, 원산지 표시가 없거나, 원산지 표시가 의심될 경우 전화 또는 농관원 누리집으로 신고해달라”고 당부했다.
