지난 28일 일본 문부과학성은 ‘강제동원'이라는 단어에서 ‘강제’라는 말을 삭제하고 독도를 ‘일본의 고유영토’라고 주장하며 ‘다케시마’로 표기한 지도가 담긴 초등학교 교과서를 검정 확정했다.

이에 협의회는 30일 성명서를 통해 “그동안 일본 교육당국이 식민지배와 침략전쟁의 역사를 부인하며 일본의 책임을 축소하는 방향으로 교과서 검정 기준을 지속적으로 바꿔왔다.”고 지적하며 “이번에 검정 확정된 일본 초등학교 사회 교과서에서는 이러한 의도가 더욱 노골적으로 드러난 것”이라고 비판했다.

그러면서 “이에 대한 시정을 위해 일본의 독도에 대한 영유권 주장 철회와 일제강점기 조선인 징병의 강제성을 명백히 밝힐 것을 강력히 요구한다.”고 전했다.

이와 함께 협의회는 “학교 현장에서 역사교육과 독도교육이 내실 있게 이루어져 학생들이 올바른 역사의식을 함양할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다.”는 다짐을 밝혔다.

협의회장 조희연 서울특별시교육감은 “역사적 사실을 왜곡하고 진실을 외면하는 일본 교육당국의 행태에 대해 분노를 느낀다.”면서 “국제공동수업 등을 통해 세계시민교육을 활성화하여 한일 양국의 학생들이 진정한 화해와 협력의 시대를 열어갈 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.
