왜곡된 교과서 및 교육에 대하여 경북교육감 예비후보 마숙자 전 교육장은 3일 성명을 내고 일본 정부를 맹비난했다.
마 예비후보는 “교육이 백년지대계라 불리는 이유는 미래를 이끌어갈 세대를 온전한 사회구성원으로 양성하는 역할을 가지기 때문”이라며 “그렇기에 교육은 사실을 기반으로 한 객관적이고 진실한 내용만을 다뤄야 한다”고 운을 뗐다.
이어 그는 “하지만 일본 정부는 과거부터 꾸준히 역사적 사실을 은폐하며, 앞으로 커나갈 세대들에게 그릇된 역사 가치관을 심어주는 교육을 실시해 왔으며, 최근에는 일제강점기 조선인 노동자에 대한 ‘강제 연행’ 표현 삭제, 위안부 문제 외면, 한국의 독도 불법 점거 주장 등 거짓된 내용으로 가득 찬 고교 교과서를 통과시켰다”고 비난했다.
마 예비후보는 “무엇이 두려워 일본의 학생들이 진실을 마주하지 못하게 눈을 가리고 귀를 막는 것이냐”고 비판했다. 그러면서 “전범국 일본은 본인들의 오욕의 역사와 근대의 만행보다 아직도 영토 분쟁에만 몰두하는 것을 더 부끄러워해야 마땅함에도 또다시 거짓된 주장과 역사 외면으로 일관하고 있다”고 강조했다.
마 예비후보는 “일본 정부는 당장 왜곡된 역사와 사상을 위한 교육을 중단하고, 사실을 기반으로 한 역사와 과거 침략전쟁에 대한 성찰적인 태도를 교육해 미래세대로 하여금 올바른 역사의식을 바탕으로 국제사회의 온전한 구성원으로 성장할 수 있도록 지원해야 할 것”이라고 역설했다.
더불어 “전범국으로써 과거에 대한 반성과 이에 대한 책임을 짊어지게 된 후대들에게도 진정성 있는 사과를 우선시하고, 동북아시아의 평화와 발전을 위한 상식적인 자세를 가질 것을 촉구한다”고 밝혔다.
마 예비후보는 그러면서 대한민국 교육에 대해서도 더욱 강화된 역사 교육을 주문했다. 그는 “동시에 대한민국 교육은 일본의 역사 왜곡과 영토침탈에 맞서 우리 학생들이 올바른 역사관과 주인의식을 가지고 대한민국의 주권을 지켜나갈 수 있도록 역사교육을 더욱 강화해야 한다”고 주장했다.
