【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 22일 울릉군 한마음회관 대회의실에서 도 환동해지역본부장, 한국섬진흥원장, 울릉군수 등이 참석한 가운데 울릉도, 독도의 인문생태자원의 보존 및 지속가능한 협력체계를 위한 상호협력 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

경상북도에 따르면 이번 협약은 대한민국의 대표적인 생태섬인 울릉도ㆍ독도를 품고 있는 경북도(울릉군)와 한국섬진흥원이 경북 동해안의 섬 인문 생태자원의 보전과 지속 가능한 발전을 위하는데 목적이 있다.

협약의 주요내용으로는, 동해안 지역 섬에 대해 ▷체계적이고 종합적인 조사ㆍ연구 ▷지속가능한 발전 및 미래지향적 중장기 발전방안 공동연구 ▷생태ㆍ문화ㆍ역사ㆍ자원의 활용과 가치증진을 위한 발전방안 공동 연구 ▷소득증대 및 복지향상, 관광활성화를 위한 공동협력 등을 추진한다는 내용을 담고 있다.

특히, 울릉군에서 첫 국가기념행사인 제4회 섬의 날 행사를 2023년 8월 8일부터 15일까지 개최할 예정으로 한국섬진흥원과 협력함으로써 자연생태의 섬 울릉도와 민족의 섬 독도 홍보를 통해 관광객 유치와 지역경제 활성화에 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

김남일 환동해지역본부장은“이번 협약으로 울릉도․독도가 대한민국의 동쪽 끝 섬이 아니라 시작의 섬으로 세계 속으로 나아가는 밑거름이 되기를 희망한다”며“2025년 울릉공항 시대를 맞아 지속 가능한 동해의 유일한 울릉도 섬 발전을 위해 유네스코 생물권 보전지역 지정 등 국제적인 생태섬을 만드는 작업을 해나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
