11일 포항시청 브리핑룸에서 출마 기자회견을 개최한 임종식 예비후보는 지난 4년 임기동안 공약사업 추진 결과 공약이행평가 99.6% 달성 등 굵직한 성과를 강조하며 “지난 성과를 기반으로 모두가 존중받는 따뜻한 경북교육과 흔들림 없는 미래교육정책 추진 및 온전한 교육회복을 꼭 이루겠다.”고 다짐했다.
이를 위한 약속으로 “삶의 힘을 키우는 인성교육으로 자기 삶의 주인공으로 키우고 미래교육 대비 수업혁신으로 한 명의 아이도 낙오되지 않도록 하겠다.”면서 “어떤 재난에도 아이들의 안전을 지키고 맞춤형 복지 확대로 모두가 행복한 경북교육을 실현하겠다.”고 말했다.
아울러 “변화와 혁신으로 서로 존중하는 교육공동체를 만들고 소통 및 학교지원 강화로 선생님이 교육에 전념할 수 있는 환경을 만들겠다.”며 주요 공약 발표를 이어갔다.
이와 함께 임종식 예비후보는 “경북에서 학교 수가 가장 많은 도시로 영덕, 울진, 울릉 지역과 함께 환동해 시대의 중심지이며, 대한민국 보물섬 독도를 품고 있는 포항 및 동해안 지역의 도시특성을 살려 해양교육과 미래교육의 메카로 도약시키는데 최선을 다하겠다.”는 입장을 밝혔다.
그러면서 포항지역 정책 공약으로 △청하면 옛 이가초등학교 리모델링으로 경북교육청 해양교육체험관 구축을 통한 해양생태교육 강화 △경북교육청문화원 부지에 복합문화공간인 포항도서관 설립 △경북과학고등학교 이전 후 교사 리모델링을 통한 수학문화관 건립으로 수학교육 허브 구축 △2023년 3월 1일자로 포항해양과학고등학교의 한국해양마이스터고 전환에 따라 포항이 해양산업 관련 교육 중심지로 도약 마련 △구 울릉북중학교 부지에 울릉미래교육센터 구축으로 울릉지역 학생들의 창의융합 교육 지원 △구 울릉초 장흥분교장에 경북교육청 독도교육원 건립으로 독도교육 강화 등을 제시했다.
임종식 경북교육감 후보는 “우리 앞에는 학령인구 감소와 지방소멸 위기뿐만 아니라 코로나19로 더 벌어진 교육 격차를 해소해야 하는 과제가 놓여있다.”며 “이를 해결하고 지속가능한 미래교육을 실현하기 위한 중장기 전략과 지역별, 학교급별, 학생 개인별 맞춤식 교육정책들을 준비했다”는 각오를 밝혔다.
