마 전 교육장은 “경북교육에 책임이 제대로 작동하는 구조를 만들겠다”며 각오를 밝혔다. 

그는 “지난 선거 이후 교육 현장을 발로 뛰며 직접 살펴본 결과, 경북교육이 안고 있는 핵심 문제는 개인이 아니라, 책임이 작동하지 않는 구조에 있다는 점을 확인했다”면서 “재출마는 현재의 문제를 외면하지 않겠다는 책임감에서 내린 결정”이라고 강조했다.

현 교육행정에 대해서는 △설명되지 않은 정책 결정 △책임이 현장에 떠넘겨지는 구조 △사후 대응에 치우친 반복 행정 등을 주요 문제로 꼽았다. 마 전 교육장은 “교육의 위기는 큰 사건이 아니라, 작은 신호에서 출발한다”며 “작은 경고 신호에도 현장에서 충분히 설명하고, 구조적 책임을 분명히 하면서, 속도보다 검증을 우선하는 행정으로 바꿔가겠다”고 말했다.

이날 마 전 교육장은 다섯 가지 주요 공약도 내놨다. 첫째, 경북의 역사와 자원을 교육 콘텐츠로 확장하는 ‘K-EDU 플랫폼’을 구축해 온·오프라인이 융합된 글로벌 교육을 추진할 방침이다. 둘째, 지역소멸 대응을 위한 ‘작지만 강한 학교’ 모델 도입과, 학급당 학생 수 감축을 통해 공교육의 질과 지역 정착력을 높이겠다는 계획이다.

마 전 교육장은 특히 김상동 전 경북대 총장에게 ‘원팀’ 구성을 제안해 눈길을 끌었다. 그는 “원팀은 단순한 선거연합이 아니라, 같은 언어로 교육을 설명하고 같은 기준과 원칙으로 결정하며, 모두가 결과에 책임지는 구조”라며 “개인 경쟁을 넘어 책임 연대로 경북교육의 신뢰를 되찾자”고 밝혔다. 

김 전 총장 측도 “경북교육은 개인 경쟁을 뛰어넘어 책임 연대로 나아가야 한다”고 화답한 것으로 전해졌다.

단일화 추진 일정과 관련해 양측은 예비후보 등록이 시작되는 2월 3일, 설 명절 이후 일정 등을 염두에 두고 내부 논의를 이어가고 있다. 

후보 측은 현재 잠정적으로 2월 7일부터 9일까지 여론조사를 실시해 단일 후보를 선정하고, 2월 17일 귀향 일정에 맞춰 단일화 결과를 발표하는 방안을 검토 중이라고 밝혔다. 단일화 방식과 구체적 일정은 최종 합의에 따라 변동될 수 있으며, 세부 내용은 추후 별도 자료로 공개할 예정이다.

마 전 교육장은 “경북교육의 현실을 더 이상 외면하지 않겠다는 책임감이 재출마를 결심하게 했다. 작은 신호 하나도 놓치지 않는 교육행정으로 경북교육의 신뢰를 반드시 회복하겠다”고 말했다.
