박병훈 전 경북도의원이 제8회전국동시지방선거에서 경주시장 출마를 공식 선언했다.

28일 오후 2시 박병훈 전 의원은 옛 경주역 광장에서 언론인과 일반시민들이 참석한 가운데 출마 기자회견을 개최했다.

이날 박 예비후보는 “경주의 새로운 미래가 펼쳐질 화합과 소통의 공간인 경주역 광장에서 출사표를 던지게 되어 감격스럽다”고 밝히며 “동시에 막중한 책임감을 느낀다.”는 소회를 전했다.

이어 그는 “현재의 경주가 절체절명의 위기 상황에 처해 있다”고 진단하며 “30만 명에 육박하던 인구는 지속적으로 감소하여 간신히 25만 명을 유지하고 있고, 재정자립도 역시 20% 밑으로 추락했다”고 지적하며 “독보적인 관광자원을 보유하고 있음에도 세계적인 트렌드를 따라가지 못해 국내외 관광객들에게 외면당하고 있는 현실”이라고 강조했다.

그러면서 그는 “이런 위기를 탈출하기 위해 명실상부 경주다운 경주를 만들어야 한다.”며 “, 자신이 경주다움을 깨워 일으키는 역할을 하겠다.”는 다짐을 전했다.

박병훈 후보는 자신이 경주에서 태어나 자라고 평생을 살아온 토종 정치인인 만큼 지역 문제를 정확하게 진단할 수 있다고 자신하며 8가지 전략분야 △비욘드 로마(beyond Rome) - 로마를 넘어서 3천만 관광객 시대의 도시 기반 구축, △저탄소, 친환경, 전기수소차 전문 신산업단지 조성, △농․축산․임․어업 분야를 10대 명품을 제공하는 고부가 산업으로 전환, △경주시민의 행복지수 파격 상승 - 국내 1위 목표, △경주다움 도심재생 프로젝트로 경주 재설계, △경주다움의 핵심인재 2천명 육성, △시민소통 시스템과 보상제도 구축, △경주다움 미래연구소 설립을 제시했다. 

아울러 박 예비후보는 “이런 엄중한 위기상황에서는 유능하고, 위기대처능력이 강한 사람이 필요하기 때문에 늘 시민 속에서 애환을 함께 한 제가 나서겠다.”고 밝히며 “시민의 귀가 되고, 시민의 가슴이 되며, 시민의 발이 되어 시민의 삶과 함께 뛰는 시장이 되겠다. 삶의 현장에서 시민들과 함께 땀과 눈물을 흘리며 경주의 보다 나은 내일을 준비해온 만큼 준비된 새 인물 박병훈에게 일할 기회를 부탁드린다.”라며 지지를 호소했다.

한편, 박 예비후보는 이날 기자회견을 경주시청 브리핑룸에서 개최하려 했으나  경주시가 “시청 브리핑 룸은 시민을 위한 공공의 목적으로 사용하기 위해 내부 규정을 만들어 ‘이용 제한’을 하고 있다며 출마 기자회견은 선거, 정치적 성격의 이용제한 사유에 해당된다며 사용을 불허해 옛 경주역 광장에서 열리게 됐다.
