【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구경북인터넷기자협회(회장 강승탁)가 주최하는 ‘TK100 포럼’이 5일 오후 대구스포츠산업지원센터 대회의실에서 열렸다. 

올해 첫 정책 담론의 장으로 마련된 이번 포럼은 ‘2025년 경주에서 열리는 APEC 정상회의와 TK지역 발전 전략’을 주제로 진행됐다.

행사는 강승탁 협회장의 개회사로 문을 열었다. 강 회장은 “APEC 정상회의와 TK지역 발전 전략을 연결하는 의미 있는 자리를 만들고자 했다”며 “APEC 개최가 55일 앞으로 다가왔다. 경주가 불철주야 준비하는 모습을 보며 세계 속 도시로 도약할 것이라는 확신이 생겼다”고 말했다.

기조발제에 나선 주낙영 경주시장은 “APEC 성공을 넘어 국제 글로벌 도시로 도약하겠다”는 비전을 제시했다. 그는 “대한민국의 찬란한 역사와 문화를 보여줄 수 있는 도시는 경주뿐”이라며 “이번 회의는 한국의 뿌리 깊은 전통을 세계에 알리는 기회가 될 것”이라고 강조했다.

이어 주 시장은 APEC의 국제적 의미를 설명하며 “제2차 세계대전 이후 자유경제 질서 속에서 APEC의 중요성은 더욱 커졌다. 이번 경주 회의가 새로운 협력 질서를 여는 매듭이 되길 기대한다”고 밝혔다. 그는 김정은 위원장의 참석 여부, 시진핑 주석과 트럼프 전 대통령 회동 가능성, 글로벌 CEO 교류 등 정상회의가 지닌 외교·경제적 파급력을 언급하며 기대감을 드러냈다.

그는 또 유치 과정과 성과를 회고했다. “2021년 유치 선언 당시 회의적 시선이 있었지만, 경주시민 25만 명의 서명이 전국 142만 명으로 확산되며 국가적 지지를 끌어냈다”며 “이는 APEC의 가치인 포용성과 균형발전을 보여주는 상징”이라고 평가했다.

준비 상황에 대해서는 “추경·예비비·특별법으로 국비 4,150억 원을 확보하고, 민간투자 3,000억 원 이상을 연계했다”며 도시 정비사업과 숙박·언론 지원 인프라를 구체적으로 소개했다. 또 시민 불편 최소화를 위해 임시공휴일 건의를 추진하고, 외국인 관광객 편의를 위한 공공화장실·글로벌 레스토랑·통번역 서비스 확충 계획도 내놨다.

사후 활용과 도시 비전도 제시됐다. 주 시장은 “회의장은 전시장으로, 미디어센터는 컨벤션 용도로 전환하고, 보문관광단지를 전면 리모델링해 경주를 중앙정부가 투자하는 문화특별시로 발전시키겠다”고 밝혔다. 한국수력원자력과 연계한 ‘탄소제로 미래도시’ 구상도 언급했다.

그는 “세계적 행사를 치르면 시민의식과 서비스 수준이 글로벌 스탠더드로 올라선다”며 “APEC은 경주의 브랜드 가치를 높이고 장기적으로 관광·투자로 이어질 것”이라고 전망했다. 정치적 행보와 관련해서는 “APEC 유치는 선거와 무관하다. 지금은 세계에서 가장 잘하는 APEC을 만드는 데 전념하겠다”고 선을 그었다.

기조발제 후 이어진 기자단 질의응답에서는 APEC 준비 현황과 TK지역 발전 전략을 중심으로 심도 있는 논의가 오갔다. 협회 측은 이번 ‘TK100 포럼’을 대구경북의 미래 100년을 준비하는 출발점으로 삼아 정례적 토론의 장으로 발전시켜 나가겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

Mayor Joo then explained the international significance of APEC, stating, "The importance of APEC has grown even more in the post-World War II free economic order. I hope this Gyeongju meeting will serve as a catalyst for a new cooperative order." He expressed his anticipation, citing the summit's diplomatic and economic impact, including Chairman Kim Jong-un's attendance, the possibility of a meeting between President Xi Jinping and former President Trump, and the exchange of global CEOs.

He also reflected on the bidding process and its achievements. "While there was skepticism when the 2021 bid was announced, the petition, signed by 250,000 Gyeongju citizens, has garnered national support, reaching 1.42 million signatures nationwide. Regarding the preparations, he stated, "We have secured 415 billion won in national funds through supplementary budgets, reserve funds, and special laws, and have linked over 300 billion won in private investment," and provided specific details on urban redevelopment projects and infrastructure support for accommodations and media. Following the keynote speech, the press Q&A session featured in-depth discussions focusing on the current status of APEC preparations and the development strategy for the TK region. The association announced its intention to develop this ‘TK100 Forum’ into a regular forum for discussion, using it as a starting point for preparing for the next 100 years of Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
