이번 행사는 내년 10월 27일부터 11월 1일까지 열리는 2025 APEC 정상회의 주간의 주요 문화행사로, 한복을 중심으로 한 ‘5韓(한복·한식·한옥·한지·한글)’ 콘텐츠에 전통과 첨단기술을 결합한 무대로 꾸며졌다.

경북도는 우리나라 한복 문화의 뿌리로, 비단과 삼베 등 원료 생산부터 제작까지 이어지는 전국 유일의 한복 산업 생태계를 갖추고 있다. 특히 전국에서 유일하게 손명주를 생산하는 경주 두산 명주마을과 2021년 설립된 한국한복진흥원을 중심으로 이번 행사가 경북 전통문화의 세계화를 상징하는 자리로 평가받고 있다.

‘한복, 내일을 날다’를 슬로건으로 열린 이번 패션쇼는 한복을 매개로 과거·현재·미래를 잇는 문화 교류의 장으로 기획됐다.

AI 영상과 미디어아트 등 첨단기술이 한복의 섬세한 곡선미와 어우러지며, 한국적 미(美)를 감각적으로 표현했다. 무대는 신라시대 왕궁과 교외를 잇던 월정교를 배경으로, 전통 곡선을 형상화한 ‘ㅎ’자형 수상 런웨이로 구성돼 이목을 끌었다.

패션쇼는 ‘신라 왕복’, ‘APEC 기념 한복’, ‘AI 한복’ 등 다양한 테마로 진행됐으며, 이진희 디자이너가 선보인 ‘AI 한복’은 인공지능 기반 기술을 접목한 작품으로 전통과 미래의 조화를 보여줬다.

특히 이번 행사에서는 APEC 정상회의를 기념한 한복이 처음으로 공개됐다. 남성복은 구혜자 침선장, 여성복은 강미자 명장이 제작했으며, 상주 함창 명주에 한글과 구름 문양을 직조해 한국적 아름다움을 한층 살렸다. 각국의 상징색과 오방색을 조화시켜 ‘문화로 연결되는 APEC’의 의미를 표현한 점도 눈길을 끌었다.

행사장에는 한복 외에도 한식, 한옥, 한지, 한글 등 ‘5韓 콘텐츠 전시관’이 마련돼 관람객들이 직접 보고 듣고 체험할 수 있는 공간으로 운영됐다.

특히 APEC 대표단과 각국 경제인들이 한지 전시, 한복 체험 등 전통문화 프로그램에 참여해 경북의 문화와 정서를 직접 체험하는 국제 교류의 장이 펼쳐졌다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “한복은 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래를 잇는 문화의 매개체”라며 “이번 APEC 한복패션쇼를 통해 경북의 문화저력과 전통의 아름다움을 세계에 각인시키고, 한복이 글로벌 문화콘텐츠로 도약하는 전환점을 만들겠다”고 밝혔다.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Gyeongju City hosted the 'APEC 2025 KOREA Hanbok Fashion Show' on the floating stage of Woljeonggyo Bridge in Gyeongju on the 29th.

This event, a key cultural event during the 2025 APEC Summit Week, taking place from October 27 to November 1 next year, featured hanbok-centered content on the "5 Hans" (hanbok, Korean food, hanok, hanji, and Hangeul), combining tradition and cutting-edge technology.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, the root of Korea's hanbok culture, boasts the nation's only hanbok industrial ecosystem, encompassing everything from the production of raw materials like silk and hemp to the production of finished products. This event, particularly centered around Gyeongju Doosan Silk Village, the only silk production site in Korea, and the Korea Hanbok Promotion Institute, established in 2021, is recognized as a symbol of the globalization of Gyeongbuk's traditional culture.

Under the slogan "Hanbok, Flying Tomorrow," the fashion show was designed as a venue for cultural exchange, bridging the past, present, and future through hanbok.

Cutting-edge technologies, such as AI video and media art, harmonized with the delicate curves of hanbok, creating a sensual expression of Korean beauty. The stage, set against the backdrop of Woljeonggyo Bridge, which connected the royal palace and suburbs during the Silla Dynasty, featured an "H"-shaped floating runway, symbolizing the traditional curves of the bridge.

The fashion show featured various themes, including "Silla Round Trip," "APEC Commemorative Hanbok," and "AI Hanbok." Designer Lee Jin-hee's "AI Hanbok," a work of art incorporating AI-based technology, showcased the harmony between tradition and the future.

This event was particularly notable for the first time when hanbok commemorating the APEC Summit was unveiled. The men's attire was crafted by master weaver Gu Hye-ja, and the women's attire by master weaver Kang Mi-ja. The Korean aesthetic was further enhanced by the weaving of Hangul and cloud patterns onto Sangju Hamchang silk. The harmony of each country's symbolic colors with the five cardinal colors also drew attention, expressing the meaning of "APEC Connected Through Culture."

In addition to hanbok, the event featured a "5-Korean Content Exhibition Hall" featuring Korean food, hanok, hanji, and the Korean alphabet, allowing visitors to see, hear, and experience firsthand.

Notably, APEC delegations and businesspeople from various countries participated in traditional cultural programs, including a hanji exhibition and hanbok experience, providing a forum for international exchange, allowing them to directly experience the culture and spirit of Gyeongbuk.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “Hanbok is a cultural medium that connects the past, present, and future,” and added, “Through this APEC Hanbok Fashion Show, we will impress upon the world the cultural strength and beauty of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s traditions, and create a turning point for Hanbok to leap forward as a global cultural content.”
