그동안 택시업계는 유류비와 인건비 등 운송원가 증가에 따른 운임 조정을 지속적으로 요구해 왔으나, 경상북도는 이용객 부담을 고려해 현행 요금을 유지해왔다. 그러나 최근 지속적인 물가 상승과 경영 악화로 인해 처우 개선 및 서비스 질 향상을 위한 요금 인상이 불가피하다는 판단이 반영된 것으로 보인다.

조정된 요금 체계에 따르면 중형택시 기본요금은 2km 기준 4,000원에서 1.7km 기준 4,500원으로 변경되며, 거리요금은 131m당 100원에서 128m당 100원, 15km/h 이하 저속 운행 시 시간요금은 31초당 100원에서 30초당 100원으로 조정됐다.

다만 서민 부담을 고려해 심야할증(23:00~04:00)은 기존 20%를 유지하기로 했다.

경북도 내에는 약 9,400대의 중형택시가 운행되고 있으며, 도는 향후 다양한 수요 변화에 대비해 대형·소형 및 경형택시 요금 기반도 단계적으로 마련할 계획이다.

이재훈 경북도 경제통상국장은 “이번 조치는 도민 부담을 최소화하면서도 업계의 운송 원가와 적정 수익을 균형 있게 고려한 결정”이라며 “택시업 종사자의 처우 개선과 안정적인 경영 환경 조성을 지원하고, 도민에게 안전하고 편리한 교통 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
