지난 29일 김 의원은 제22대 국회 1호 법안으로 안동대 의대 신설을 위한 ‘경상북도 국립대학교 내 의과대학의 설치 및 지역의료 강화를 위한 특별법’(이하 안동대 의대 설치법)을 대표발의했다.

안동대 의대 설립을 위한 노력을 이어온 김형동 의원은 22대 국회 개원 이후 경상북도, 안동시, 안동대학교와 긴밀히 협력해 의대 신설을 위한 구체적인 계획을 수립했다. 

이를 바탕으로 경북 내 국립대(안동대)에 의과대학을 설치하고 국가가 의대 신설에 필요한 예산을 지원하는 내용을 담아 ‘안동대 의대 설치법’을 성안해 대표발의했다.

법안이 통과되면 안동대에 의과대학을 설치해 경북 북부 내 의료인력 및 인프라가 대폭 확충될 것으로 예상된다. 또한, 백신산업을 위한 지역인재가 확보됨에 따라 백신산업 고도화 및 지역경제 활성화에도 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

함께 대표발의된 ‘국립대학 설치법 일부개정법률안’에는 국립 의과대학의 원활한 교육과정 운영을 위해 기준을 충족하는 병원에 의료 실습을 위탁할 수 있는 근거를 담겨 있다. 해당 법안이 통과되면 향후 안동대 의대 신설 직후의 의료 실습도 차질없이 진행될 예정이다.

김형동 의원은 “이번 안동대 의대 설치법은 신속한 통과를 위해 여야·지역을 초월한 24명의 국회의원에게 동의를 받아 추진”했다며 “22대 국회 내에 안동대 의대 신설을 확정하여, 안동·예천주민들의 의료권을 확보하겠다”며 법안 통과의 의지를 밝혔다.

If the bill is passed, the establishment of a medical school at Andong National University is expected to significantly expand medical personnel and infrastructure in northern Gyeongbuk. In addition, as local talent for the vaccine industry is secured, it is expected to play an important role in the advancement of the vaccine industry and the revitalization of the local economy.

The ‘Partial Amendment to the National University Establishment Act’ proposed together contains grounds for entrusting medical training to hospitals that meet the criteria for smooth operation of the national medical school curriculum. If the bill is passed, medical training immediately after the establishment of Andong National University Medical School will proceed without a hitch.

Rep. Kim Hyung-dong said, “This Andong National University Medical School Establishment Act was promoted with the consent of 24 National Assembly members transcending the ruling and opposition parties and regions in order to pass quickly,” and “We will confirm the establishment of Andong National University Medical School within the 22nd National Assembly and secure the medical rights of Andong and Yecheon residents,” expressing his will to pass the bill.
