지난 5일 경북도청신도시 천년숲 일원(안동시 풍천면 갈전리 1657)에서 박정희 전 대통령 동상 제막식이 열렸다.

행사에는 이철우 경북지사를 비롯해 각계 인사와 시민 등 2000여 명이 참석했다.

높이 8.5m(작품 7, 좌대 1.5) 규모의 동상은 (사)대구경북미래연구원 박정희대통령동상건립추진위원회에서 사업비 10억 원을 투입해 건립한 것으로 알려진다.

동상 앞면 하단에는 ‘오천년 가난을 물리친 위대한 대통령 박정희’, 뒷면 하단에는 그의 생전 어록이 새겨졌다. 동상 뒤로는 박 전 대통령의 업적, 사진 등을 소개하는 배경석 12개가 설치됐다.

이날 제막식에 앞서 더불어민주당 경북도당과 시민단체 등이 기자회견을 열고 동상 건립을 반대하는 목소리를 내기도 했다.

이들은 “박정희는 군사 쿠데타를 일으켜 대통령이 된 인물로 3선 개헌, 유신헌법 재정 등 민주주의를 침해하고 짓밟았다”며 ““일 유신독재자 박정희 동상 건립을 규탄한다”고 말했다.
