【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=구미시가 박정희 전 대통령의 생가 인근인 사곡동 간이역의 이름을 ‘박정희 생가역’으로 개명하려는 움직임에 대하여 보수진영에서도 찬반 논란이 이어지고 있다.

논란의 시작은 경북 구미시가 박정희 전 대통령의 상모동 생가에서 약 1.5km가량 떨어진 지금의 사곡역을 '박정희 생가역'으로 개명하려는 움직임 때문. 

이에 이준석 전 국민의힘 대표가 뜬금없다며 반대하고 나서자 친박정희계로 알려진 같은당 윤상현 의원이 이 전 대표의 반대에 또 반대를 하고 나서면서 정치권의 뜨거운 감자로 떠오르고 있다.

이 전 대표는 "경남 김해 봉하마을의 진영역이 '노무현 생가역'이 되지 않은 것처럼 사곡역이 박정희 생가역이 되는 일은 없어야 한다. 사곡역은 KTX 정차역도 아니고 (대구 광역전철의) 전철역일 뿐인데다, 그런 간이역에 박정희 전 대통령과 같은 인물의 이름을 붙인다는 것은 박정희 대통령을 예우하는 사람이라면 하면 안 된다는 것“이라고 주장했다. 

도시를 대표하는 큰 역이라면 몰라도 간이역에 불과했고 앞으로도 전철 노선 중 하나일 뿐인데 박정희 이름을 붙이는 건 예의가 아니라는 것.

이 전 대표는 또 “역 이름에 박정희 대통령 이름을 붙인다고 관광수요나 방문객이 늘 것이라는 생각도 전혀 논리적이지 않다”며 반대 이유를 거듭 밝혔다.    

이 전 대표의 이 같은 주장에 윤상현 의원은 발끈했다. "이 전 대표가 진영역이 '노무현 생가역'이 되지 않은 것처럼 '박정희 생가역'도 만들어지면 안 된다고 했는데 둘 다 하면 안 된다가 아니라, 둘 다 하는 방향으로 고민해봐야 할 문제”라고 한 발 앞서 나갔다.  

그러면서 미국 최대 국제공항인 뉴욕 JFK국제공항과 유럽대륙 최대 관문인 프랑스 샤를드골 공항의 예를 들며 “국민적 합의만 이루어진다면 전직 대통령의 이름을 역명이나 공항명으로 남기는 일에 인색하지 말아야 한다“고 했다.

윤 의원은 또 "과거의 인물을 역사의 균형추 위에서 바라봤을 때 과보다 공이 훨씬 많다면, 야박한 평가보다는 따뜻한 시선으로 바라보고, 안 되는 쪽보다는 되는 쪽을 고민할 필요가 있다”고도 주장해 논란을 키웠다.

우리공화당도 개입했다. 조원진 대표는 “‘박정희 생가역’은 반드시 추진해야 한다”고 주장하고 이 전 대표와 오세훈 서울시장을 싸잡아 비난했다. 같은 보수진영에서조차 이같이 입장이 서로 다르게 나타나면서 구미시가 박정희 생가역 추진을 어떤 식으로 결론 낼 것인지 주목되고 있다.
