이날 행사에는 김장호 구미시장, 손재일 한화시스템 대표이사, 양금희 경상북도 경제부지사, 국회의원 및 도·시의원, 국방과학연구소, 육·해·공군 고위 관계자와 협력업체 및 임직원 등 250여 명이 참석해 준공을 축하했다.

한화시스템은 이번 신공장 가동을 통해 첨단 방산 생산 체제로의 전환을 선언했다. 단순한 설비 확장을 넘어 지역 내 방산 산업 전반에 투자 확대를 견인하는 ‘투자 도미노 효과’가 기대된다는 평가다.

구미사업장은 2022년 투자협약 체결 이후 약 89,000㎡(약 27,000평) 규모 부지에 건립됐으며, 해양 무인체계, 함정 전투체계, 전술정보통신체계(TICN), 통합전장시스템 등 차세대 핵심 방산 장비를 집중 생산한다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 최대 방산전자 체계 생산 거점으로 자리매김하며 미래 방위산업 경쟁력 강화를 견인할 계획이다.

특히 연구개발(R&D)부터 생산, 테스트, 수출 기능을 집약한 ‘통합형 체계 구축’으로 글로벌 공급 체계와 연동 가능한 대응력을 확보했다. 세계적으로 K-방산 수요가 증가하는 가운데 대량 물량을 안정적으로 공급할 수 있는 기반을 마련한 만큼 수출 확대에도 탄력이 붙을 것으로 전망된다.

한화시스템은 지난 40여 년간 육·해·공·우주·사이버 분야를 아우르는 기술력을 축적해 온 국내 대표 방산전자 기업으로, 스마트 국방시대를 선도하고 있다. 무기 경쟁력이 단일 플랫폼 성능 중심에서 센서·네트워크·지휘체계(C4ISR) 중심으로 이동하고 있는 국방 혁신 흐름 속에서 한화시스템의 역할은 더욱 확대될 것으로 분석된다.

구미사업장은 지역경제 활성화 기여 측면에서도 주목된다. 지역 핵심 방산 앵커기업으로서 대규모 투자와 신규 고용 창출이 이어지며 지역 산업 생태계 전반에 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대된다.

The Gumi plant, built on a site measuring approximately 89,000 square meters (approximately 27,000 pyeong) following the signing of an investment agreement in 2022, will focus on producing next-generation core defense equipment, including maritime unmanned systems, shipboard combat systems, tactical information and communication systems (TICN), and integrated battlefield systems. Building on this foundation, Hanwha Systems plans to establish itself as Korea's largest defense electronics production base and drive the future competitiveness of the defense industry.

Notably, the company has secured the ability to integrate with global supply chains by establishing an "integrated system" that integrates R&D, production, testing, and export functions.
