【브레이크뉴스 구미】이성현 기자=구미시와 구미상공회의소는 지난 29일 ‘SK실트론과 함께하는 반도체스쿨’ 참여 학생 중 우수 학생 30명을 선발해 SK실트론 본사 탐방과 실무자 멘토링 등 심화 프로그램을 운영했다고 밝혔다.

‘구미 반도체스쿨’은 구미시, 구미상공회의소, SK실트론이 협력해 추진하는 지역 상생형 인재양성 프로그램으로, 지역 고등학교 1학년을 대상으로 반도체 산업 이해와 진로 탐색 기회를 제공한다.

2024년부터 2년간 구미시 내 14개 고교 1학년 약 3,700명을 대상으로 150회 이상 방문형 교육을 진행했다. 교육 과정에서는 반도체 특화단지 소개, 산업 현황, 제조공정, 진학·취업 전략 등을 다루고, 학생들의 흥미를 높이기 위해 게임형 실습과 체험형 멘토링을 접목했다.

이번에 선발된 학생들은 SK실트론 본사를 방문해 주요 시설 견학, 현업 실무자와의 직무 멘토링, 실무 시뮬레이션 프로그램 참여 등 다양한 체험을 했다. 특히 실무 시뮬레이션에서는 실제 산업 현장에서 발생할 수 있는 문제를 직접 해결하고, 임원진으로부터 피드백을 받으며 실질적인 직무 이해를 높였다.

이번 프로그램은 구미가 비수도권 유일의 반도체 특화단지로 지정된 이후 지역 산업인재 양성을 강화하기 위한 전략의 일환이다. 구미시는 경력보유 여성과 지역 반도체 전공 대학생 등으로 구성된 강사풀을 확충하며 지역 인적자원 개발에도 속도를 내고 있다.

윤재호 경북(구미)상공회의소 회장은 “반도체는 지역 주력 산업이자 국가 핵심 전략산업으로, 전문인력 양성은 선택이 아닌 필수”라며 “구미상의에서도 지역 인재가 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

김장호 구미시장은 “구미가 명실상부한 반도체 산업 허브로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 일자리와 정주 기반을 강화하고 있다”며 “지역과 기업이 함께 성장하는 선순환 구조를 만들어가겠다”고 강조했다.

Over the course of two years, starting in 2024, approximately 3,700 first-year students from 14 high schools in Gumi City will receive more than 150 on-site training sessions. The curriculum covers topics such as an introduction to the semiconductor complex, the current state of the industry, manufacturing processes, and career and employment strategies. To enhance student engagement, the program incorporates game-based training and hands-on mentoring.

The selected students visited SK Siltron's headquarters and gained diverse experiences, including a tour of key facilities, job mentoring with industry professionals, and participation in a practical simulation program. The practical simulation program, in particular, allowed them to directly solve problems that could arise in real-world industrial settings and receive feedback from executives, deepening their understanding of practical work.

This program is part of a strategy to strengthen the development of local industry talent following Gumi's designation as the only semiconductor-specialized complex outside the Seoul metropolitan area. Gumi is accelerating the development of local human resources by expanding its instructor pool, which includes experienced women and local university students majoring in semiconductors.

Yoon Jae-ho, Chairman of the Gyeongbuk (Gumi) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated, "Semiconductors are a key regional industry and a key national strategic industry. Training professional talent is not an option, but a necessity. The Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry will actively support local talent to achieve global competitiveness."
