Recently, conservative commentator Byun Hee-jae, CEO of Media Watch, filed a complaint against the statue, claiming it was a "fake Park Chung-hee statue resembling former Mayor Hong Joon-pyo." The city responded, "We will proceed appropriately through deliberation by the Commemorative Project Promotion Committee and internal review." However, the possibility that an internal decision had already been made regarding the statue's preservation has fueled further controversy.

Experts unanimously agree, saying, "Given the repeated legal and political debate surrounding the statue's preservation, this decision should be made through an official public discussion process, not an internal administrative decision."

Currently, the city of Daegu is facing demands from civil society for a transparent deliberation process regarding the statue's removal, including by disclosing the list of members and meeting minutes of the commemorative project promotion committee, in accordance with the public discussion process stipulated in the "Daegu Metropolitan City Ordinance on President Park Chung-hee Memorial Projects."
