14일 대구시는 동대구역 앞 광장에서 박정희 광장 표지판 제막식을 개최했다.

이날 행사에는 홍준표 대구시장, 강은희 대구시교육감, 강대식 국회의원 등을 비롯한 인사들과 새마을부녀회 등이 참석했다.

전날 미리 설치된 표지판은 높이 5ｍ로 맨 위쪽에는 박정희 전 대통령의 얼굴이 그려졌고 아래에는 박 전 대통령 친필로 적힌 박정희 광장이라는 문구가 새겨졌다.

홍준표 대구시장은 제막식에서 “박정희 대통령의 산업화 정신을 기리기 위해 대구의 관문인 동대구역 광장을 박정희 광장으로 명명하고 그 의미를 되새기고자 한다”며 “올해 안에 박정희 동상을 세워 시민들과 함께 기념할 생각”이라고 계획을 밝혔다.

한편 제막식에 앞서 지역 5개 야당과 박정희 우상화 사업 반대 범시민 운동본부는 이를 규탄하는 기자회견을 개최해 강도 높은 비판을 쏟아냈다.

이들은 “위안부 기림의 날이자 일제 36년의 압제를 끝내고 민족이 해방된 날을 기념하는 광복절 전야에 혈서로 일본 천황에게 충성을 맹세한 박정희의 이름을 동대구역 이름으로 명명하는 표지판 제막식을 개최하는 것은 홍준표 대구시장이 반역사적이고 반인권적 사고에 빠져 있는지를 극명하게 보여주는 것”이라고 맹비난했다.

또한 “광장은 시민의 것이며 한 개인의 정치적 야욕을 위해서 이용해서는 안된다”며 “지명을 변경하려면 관련된 법과 절차를 따라야하지만 홍 시장은 시민들에게 의사를 묻지도 않은 채 박정희 독재 시절 정치와 행정행태를 그대로 답습하고 있다”고 꼬집었다.

아울러 “시민들의 반대에도 아랑곳없이 박정희 우상화 작업에 여념이 없는 홍준표 시장은 박전 대통령에 대한 존경의 마음으로 그러는 것인지 대권 후보에 오르는데 필요한 꼼수인지 묻고싶다”며 “지역 5개 야당과 시민사회 단체는 시민들과 함께 끝까지 지켜보고 싸워나갈 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

They fiercely criticized, saying, “Holding an unveiling ceremony for a sign naming Dongdaegu Station after Park Chung-hee, who pledged allegiance to the Japanese emperor in blood, on the eve of Liberation Day, which is a day to commemorate comfort women and the day our nation was liberated after 36 years of oppression by Japan, clearly shows that Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo is mired in anti-historical and anti-human rights thinking.”

He also criticized, saying, “The plaza belongs to the citizens and should not be used for the political ambitions of an individual,” and “If you want to change the name, you have to follow the relevant laws and procedures, but Mayor Hong is just repeating the political and administrative behaviors of the Park Chung-hee dictatorship without even asking the citizens for their opinions.” He also said, “I would like to ask Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who is continuing to idolize Park Chung-hee despite the citizens’ opposition, whether he is doing it out of respect for former President Park or because it is a trick necessary to become a presidential candidate,” and added, “The five local opposition parties and civic groups will watch and fight together with the citizens until the end.”
