대구시는 동대구역 광장에 폭염대비 디자인 캐노피 설치했다고 7일 밝혔다.
매년 여름 동대구역 광장에는 철도이용객들이 폭염과 강우를 피해 이동할 수 있도록 임시로 몽골텐트를 설치했으나 미관 저해 등으로 영구적인 캐노피 설치의 필요성이 대두됐다.
이에 대구시는 2020년 10월 설계를 시작으로 캐노피 설치 공사에 사업비 6억원을 투입해 길이 43m, 높이 6m의 규모로 2021년 10월 5일 공사 착공해 2022년 4월 2일 완료했다.
이번에 설치된 캐노피는 철도 이용객에게 양질의 보행 환경을 제공함과 동시에 건축, 미술, 조명 등 분야별 전문가 자문을 거쳐 동대구역 광장의 기능을 저해하지 않으면서도 광장의 특성을 살릴 수 있도록 디자인했다.
동대구역 3번 출구에서 버스, 택시승강장을 연결하는 보행 동선에 설치돼, 대중교통 환승을 위한 이용객들에게 편의를 제공할 수 있다.
또 주야간 경관을 고려한 디자인, 조명 설치로 동대구역 광장의 새로운 볼거리 제공으로 특색 있는 명소로 거듭날 것으로 기대된다.
