대구시는 동대구역 광장에 4∼5ｍ 높이로 제작된 ‘박정희 광장’을 설치하고 14일 표지판 제막식을 개최할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

이에 더불어민주당 대구시당은 12일 “홍준표 시장의 시대착오적이고 반역사적인 박정희 우상화 사업을 강력히 규탄한다”며 논평을 발표했다.

민주당 대구시당은 “동대구역 광장의 이름을 제대로 된 시민 의견 수렴이 전혀 없이 박정희 광장으로 바꾸는 것은 왕조시대에서도 상상하기 힘든 폭거”라고 맹비난했다.

그러면서 “이는 동대구역광장을 이용하는 시민들에게 박정희 찬양을 일방적으로 강요하는 것으로 홍준표시장 대권놀음의 일환”이라고 꼬집었다.

또한 “친일반민족행위, 좌익활동, 군사쿠데타와 헌정유린, 국가범죄인 중대한 인권침해와 부정부패로 점철된 박정희가 우상으로 숭배 받는 도시를 만들겠다는 망상의 산물”이라며 질타를 이어갔다.

민주당 대구시당은 홍 시장을 향해 “시대착오적인 도시, 다양성을 짓밟는 질식사할 것 같은 도시로 대구의 이미지에 똥칠한 최악의 대구시장으로 남고 싶은가”라고 반문했다.

이와 함께 “민주당 대구시당은 과거를 팔아 미래를 망치고자 하는 홍준표 시장을 규탄하며 제정당과 시민사회단체와 함께 역사 부정과 우상 숭배 강요에 대해 강력한 행동을 진행할 것”이라고 강조했다.

정의당 대구시당도 “기가 찰 노릇”이라며 비판의 날을 세웠다. 이들은 특히 “박정희는 민족문제연구소가 발간한 친일인명사전에 수록된 친일인사”라며 “그런 자의 이름을 딴 박정희 광장 현판 제막식을 광복절 하루 전에 한다니 어처구니가 없다”고 꼬집었다.

그러면서 “홍준표 시장은 역사퇴행과 우경화 행보에 더 가속페달을 밟고 있다”며 “이러한 행보가 스스로의 대권가도와 정치적 야욕 때문이라는 걸 모르는 이가 없다”고 지적했다.

이어 “동대구역 광장 이름을 바꾸기 위해 시민의 의견을 듣거나 법적, 행정적 절차를 거쳤다는 이야기를 시민들은 들은 바 없다”며  “불통행정도 이런 불통이 없다”고 말했다.

정의당 대구시당은 “박정희 독재 시대와 너무도 닮아가는 것 같이 심각하게 우려스럽다”며 “홍준표 시장은 박정희 독재 시대로 회귀하려는 박정희 동상 건립, 박정희광장 설치 야욕을 당장 멈추라”고 촉구했다.
