당원들 “보수 재편, 기득권 포기, 자성, 변화 사과” 촉구 목소리 

현장에 참석한 국민의힘 대구 지역 당원들 입에서는 이날 “국민의힘이 대구를 보수의 성지로 부르며 때만 되면 이용하고 버릴 것이 아니라 진정으로 보수의 재편을 위해 노력해야 한다”고 했다. 

수성구 모 당협 소속인 박 모씨는 노골적으로 국민의힘 규탄대회에 대한 비판적 시각을 숨기지 않았다. 그는 “국민의힘에 대한 대구시민들의 애정 ....전 국민이 다 아는 사실 아니냐. 오늘 국민의힘이 이재명 독재 타도를 외치며 규탄대회를 개최하고 있지만, 나라를 이 지경으로 만든 것에 대한 사과가 먼저 있어야 한다고 생각한다”며 “오늘은 그래도 좀 당 지도부가 미안하다, 죄송하다는 한 마디는 할 줄 알았다. 실망감이 너무 크고 허탈하다”고 푸념했다. 

그는 “우리가 얼마나 많은 사랑을 쏟아주었느냐. 그런데도 (국민의힘이) 단 한번만이라도 우리 시민과 당원들의 입맛을 맞춰 준 적 있느냐. 그럼에도 애정을 보낸 곳이 대구다”라면서 “오늘은 우리 당, 국민의힘에 대한 실망이 너무나도 크다 ”고 허탈감을 감추지 못했다.

경북 지역의 선출직 한 관계자는 "참여 인원이 생각보다 적다. 모인 사람들도 모두 노인들로 동원된 느낌이 풀풀 난다.” 며 “ 보수 심장 대구에서 (국민의힘이) 외면을 받은 것 같다”고 말했다.

현장에서는 현재의 국민의힘 모습으로는 2026년 지방선거와 차기 총선을 치를 수 없다는 많은 이들의 공감대를 눈치채는 것이 어렵지 않았다. 지금과 같은 선동의 정치 집단이 아닌 보수의 품격을 품은 새로운 범보수의 출현을 기대하는 이유다. 

투쟁 방식에 대한 의문도 많았다. 과거 황교안의 방식이 가져온 보수의 몰락을 국민의힘 당원들은 누구보다 잘 기억하고 있다. 당시엔 방식에 문제가 있었다고 하지만, 지금은 방식이나 타이밍 자체가 그 때와는 너무도 또 다른 상황에서 국민의힘의 몰락을 부추기는 결정적 원인이 될 것으로 우려하는 목소리도 많았다. 

전직 사무처 관계자는 “지금 국민의힘에 필요하고 시도해야 하는 것은 이 같은 방식과 주제로 하는 규탄대회보다는 자성과 기득권을 내려놓는 모습이다. 품격의 보수 정치를 통해 국민들을 안심시키면서 여당과 차별화된 모습을 보여야 한다. 그리고 기회가 되었을 때 국민과 함께 공격해야 한다. 아무 때나 주장하고 규탄하는 것 아니다. 때를 기다리고 그 때를 기다리면서 실력을 키워 나가야 하는 데 지금 이런 모습은 국민들을 오히려 더 피곤하게 만들 뿐이다. 누구를 위한 행사인가? 통일교인가? 신천지인가? ”라며 지도부의 리더쉽 부재를 꼬집었다.

A member of a Suseong-gu party association, identified only by the surname Park, openly criticized the People Power Party's protests. He lamented, "Daegu citizens' affection for the People Power Party...isn't this a well-known fact to the entire nation? While the People Power Party is holding a protest today calling for the overthrow of Lee Jae-myung's dictatorship, I believe they should first apologize for bringing the country to this point." He continued, "I thought the party leadership would at least say, 'I'm sorry.' I'm so disappointed and devastated."

He asked, "How much love have we poured into this? Yet, has (the People Power Party) ever catered to the tastes of our citizens and party members even once? And yet, it was Daegu that sent their affection," and reiterated, "Today, the disappointment with our party, the People Power Party, is immense."

Son Chul-jik, a lawmaker from a local party association in Gyeongbuk Province, also said, "The number of participants is smaller than expected. It feels like everyone gathered here is elderly." He added, "It seems (the People Power Party) has been shunned in Daegu, the heart of the conservative party."

On the ground, it was easy to sense the consensus among many that the current People Power Party cannot compete in the 2026 local elections and the next general election.
