이에 대해 민주당 경북도당은 “안동댐 물을 대구 식수로 공급하는 것에 대해 신중해야한다”고 말했다.

이들은 “홍준표 대구시장은 김장호 구미시장과 이견이 있다는 이유로 전임 권영진 시장과 국무조정실·환경부·경북도·구미시 등이 체결한 ‘맑은 물 나눔과 상생 발전에 관한 5자 협정’을 파기하고 안동댐 물 취수 방안을 결정했다”고 지적했다.

이어 “안동댐은 지난 50년간 영풍석포제련소에서 발생한 카드뮴, 비소, 납, 아연 등 중금속으로 오염이 심각하고 안동댐 물고기 내장에서 인접한 임하댐 물고기 보다 321배나 많은 카드뮴이 검출 된데다 최근 메기에서 기준치 2배가 넘는 수은이 검출되기도 했다”고 설명했다.
