【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자= 홍정기 환경부차관과 주대영 대구지방환경청장, 김주수 의성군수가 의성군 방치폐기물 처리현장을 직접 찾았다. 방치폐기물 선별 시설과 침출물 처리시설 등이 추진상황을 점검하기 위해서다.

의성군 환경과장의 브리핑을 통해 처리 현황을 확인한 이들은 조속한 처리를 통해 주민들의 삶의 질을 높여달라고 당부했다.

의성군 관계자는 “의성 지역의 방치폐기물은 재활용업체의 행정 방해와 코로나19로 인한 해외반출 불가 등의 악재에도 불구하고, 78%가 처리됐다. 그에 따른 악취 등의 영향도 대부분 개선되고 있다”고 전했다.  의성군은 그동안 해당 업체에 대해 행정처분 19회, 고발 10회와 1,2차 행정대집행을 진행했으며, 현재 업체가 제기한 행정대집행 취소 소송과 비용청구 취소 소송에 대응하고 있다. 

홍정기 차관은 “어려운 상황도 있었지만 다행히 대다수의 폐기물들이 처리돼 이전의 모습을 되찾아가고 있다”며“남은 폐기물도 빠른 시일 내에 처리해 주민들에게 쾌적한 환경을 제공할 수 있도록 노력해달라”고 당부했다.

이에 김주수 의성군수는 “소각처리비가 상승하고 처리도 기피하는 분위기라 쉬운 상황은 아니지만, 소각협회와 유기적으로 협조하며 연내에 처리할 수 있는 방안을 모색해 나가겠다”며 조속히 처리에 최선을 다하겠다고 전했다.
