이런 가운데 이번 경북교육감 선거에서 변수로 작용할 요인으로는 임종식 후보에 대한 경찰의 수사 내용이라는 지적이다. 임종식 후보는 유치원 부지 매입의혹과 특정 물품 구매, 물품 구매 담합 의혹으로 두 번의 압수수색을 포함해 경찰 수사 대상에 올라있다.
