5월 1일 오후 2시 대구시의회 앞 도로에서는 약 5천명의 참여자가 집결한 가운데 2024 세계 노동절 대구대회가 열렸다.

이날 대회는 민주노총과 경찰이 집회범위를 놓고 충돌을 빚으며 20여 분간 지체됐다. 지난 26일 경찰은 민주노총 대구지부가 집회 신고한 5차선 도로 중 1차선을 버스 통행을 위해 제한하면서 갈등이 촉발됐다.

민주노총 대구지부는 대회 당일 “일방적으로 제한 통고한 경찰의 방침을 받아들일 수 없다”며 “불필요한 마찰과 시민 불편을 야기하는 경찰의 방침을 철회하라”고 목소리를 높였다.

경찰은 집회 범위를 확보하려는 참여자들을 저지하기 위해 물리력을 행사하면서 양측간 대치상황이 벌어졌다. 민주노총 대구지부는 5차선을 모두 확보한 뒤 대회를 시작했다.

이들은 선언문을 통해 ▶노동자의 노조할 권리 ▶손해배상 및 가압류 철폐 ▶비정규직 철폐 ▶죽지않고 일할 권리 ▶노동자의 노동권 보장 ▶윤석열 정권 퇴진을 촉구했다.

이길우 민주노총 대구본부장은 “노동자의 권리는 스스로의 투쟁으로만 찾을 수 있다는 것이 바로 노동절을 기념하는 역사의 교훈이며, 민주노총의 정신”이라고 말했다.

그러면서 “반노동, 친재벌을 자임하는 윤석열 정권은 노사 법치주의를 운운하며 노조에 대한 꼬투리 잡기와 흠집 내기를 통해 노조를 부패세력, 척결세력으로 매도하여 사회적으로 고립시키려는 반노동 폭정을 일삼아 왔다”고 비판했다.

그는 “윤석열의 정치는 극단의 혐오와 민주주의 후퇴, 역사의 퇴행이었다”며 “본인은 옳고, 국민은 틀렸고, 노동자는 죽도록 때려잡겠다는 무도한 정권과 남은 3년을 함께할 이유가 없다”고 강조했다.

아울러 “윤석열 정권을 멈춰 세우고 차별과 불평등에 저항하며 한국사회의 근본적인 변화를 만들어내자”고 목소리를 높였다.
