9일 예천군에 따르면 보문사의 ‘신중도’는 지난 1989년 도난된 이후 행방이 묘연했으나, 2023년 미국 시카고 스마트 미술관에서 소장 중인 사실이 확인되었다. 이후 국가유산청과 대한불교조계종, 관계 기관들의 지속적인 협의를 통해 조건 없이 환수되어 마침내 고향인 예천 보문사로 돌아오게 되었다.

이번 점안법회는 신중도의 귀환을 축하하고, 다시 봉안되는 불화에 생명과 정신을 부여하는 의식으로 거행되었다. 법회에는 대한불교조계종 제8교구 본사 직지사 포산 장명스님을 비롯한 불교계 여러 스님들과 함께 강상기 예천부군수, 강영구 예천군의의장 등 지역 인사들도 참석하여 환수의 기쁨을 함께했다.

강상기 부군수는 “신중도는 단순한 예술품이 아닌, 수행과 신앙의 대상이자 우리 민족 문화유산의 중요한 일부”라며, “소중한 유물이 다시 제자리로 돌아온 것을 모든 불자들과 함께 경축하고 축하드린다”고 말했다.

On the 7th, Bomunsa Temple in Bomun-myeon, Yecheon-gun held an eye-opening ceremony to commemorate the retrieval of the stolen artifact 'Shinjungdo' within the temple grounds.

According to Yecheon-gun on the 9th, Bomunsa Temple's 'Shinjungdo' had been missing since it was stolen in 1989, but it was confirmed in 2023 that it was in the possession of the Smart Art Museum in Chicago, USA.
