지난 7월 1일부터 3일까지 충남 서천종합운동장에서 열린 제1회 KTL 한국실업육상연맹회장배 대회에서 안동시청 소속 유정미 선수가 여자 일반부 100m에서 11.944초의 기록으로 가평군청 김소은 선수와 공동 1위를 차지했다. 또 다른 선수인 류지연 선수는 12.08초를 기록하며 3위에 올라 함께 시상대를 빛냈다.
이번 대회는 전국에서 60개 팀, 464명의 선수가 참가해 열띤 경쟁을 펼친 가운데, 안동시청 선수들은 치열한 레이스 속에서도 우수한 성과를 거두며 주목을 받았다.
앞서 6월 21일부터 24일까지 강원도 정선군에서 열린 제79회 전국육상경기선수권대회에서도 안동시청 육상경기단의 활약은 두드러졌다. 총 98개 팀, 903명의 선수가 참가한 이 대회에서 유정미 선수는 세단뛰기(12.78m)와 멀리뛰기(6.02m) 종목에서 모두 1위를 차지하며 2관왕에 올랐다. 또한 류지연 선수는 100m 종목에서 12.19초를 기록하며 3위에 입상했다.
안동시 관계자는 “안동시청 육상경기단이 전국대회에서 연이어 뛰어난 성적을 거두며 지역 체육의 위상을 한층 드높이고 있다”며 “앞으로도 선수들이 국내는 물론 국제무대에서도 기량을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있도록 아낌없는 지원을 이어갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.
안동시청 육상경기단은 이번 성과를 발판 삼아 하반기 예정된 각종 대회에서도 활약을 이어갈 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
