도서관에 따르면 해당 사업은 접수 시작일인 지난 1월 20일 하루 만에 정원 대비 120%의 신청률을 보이며 조기 마감됐다. 지난해 처음 시행돼 큰 호응을 얻은 데 이어 올해도 높은 관심 속에 빠르게 신청이 마무리됐다.

‘그림책 천권의 힘’은 생후 36개월부터 만 9세 이하 어린이를 대상으로 사서가 엄선한 그림책 1,000권을 5권씩 꾸러미 형태로 대출해 주는 독서 지원 프로그램이다. 아이들이 자연스럽게 책과 친해질 수 있도록 돕는 것이 목적이다.

연간 1,000권의 그림책을 완독한 어린이에게는 인증서와 메달이 수여되며, 도서관 내 ‘명예의 전당’에 이름이 게시된다. 사업 시작과 동시에 중앙도서관 신규 대출 회원이 약 50명 증가했고, 하루 평균 그림책 대출량도 평소 대비 250% 이상 늘어나는 등 독서 참여 열기가 눈에 띄게 확산되고 있다.
