【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=(재)행복북구문화재단(대표이사 박정숙)이  발레 ‘돈키호테’를 선보인다고 18일 밝혔다.

오는 25일 오후 7시 30분, 어울아트센터 함지홀에서 이번 공연은 (재)예술경영지원센터가 주관하는 2025 공연예술유통사업에 선정돼 마련됐다.

무대를 맡은 2015년 창단된 M발레단은 ‘안중근, 천국에서의 춤’, ‘오월바람’ 등 한국적 서사를 담은 작품으로 국내외에서 주목받아왔다. 특히 외국 라이선스 작품에 의존해온 한국 발레계의 현실 속에서 자체 창작과 재구성 작업을 통해 K-발레의 독창성을 세계 무대에 알리고 있다.

M발레단의 ‘돈키호테’는 전통 3막 구성을 현대적 감각으로 2막으로 재편해 속도감 있는 전개와 강렬한 연출이 특징이다. 세기딜리아, 플라멩코, 환당고 등 다채로운 스페인 무용이 어우러져 화려한 볼거리를 선사한다. 무엇보다 주인공 돈키호테를 과장된 몽상가가 아닌 젊은 연인의 사랑을 지지하는 조력자로 새롭게 해석해, 오늘날 사회가 필요로 하는 ‘진정한 영웅상’을 제시한다.

무대에는 바질리오 역의 정용재, 키트리아 역의 최솔지 발레리나가 출연한다. 두 사람은 한국예술종합학교 동문으로 국제 콩쿠르 입상 경력을 갖춘 실력파다. 지난해 M발레단 대표작 ‘안중근, 천국에서의 춤’ 이후 호흡을 맞춰온 두 무용수는 이번 무대에서 탁월한 기량과 완벽한 호흡을 선보일 것으로 기대된다.

박정숙 행복북구문화재단 대표이사는 “지역 주민들에게 수준 높은 클래식 발레를 선보일 수 있어 뜻깊다”며 “전막 발레의 감동과 발레만의 우아함을 가까이서 경험하는 기회가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

The Happy Bukgu Cultural Foundation (CEO Park Jeong-sook) announced on the 18th that it will present the ballet "Don Quixote."

This performance, scheduled for 7:30 PM on the 25th at the Hamji Hall of the Eoul Arts Center, was selected for the 2025 Performing Arts Distribution Project hosted by the Korea Arts Management Service.

The M Ballet Company, founded in 2015 and in charge of the performance, has garnered attention both domestically and internationally for works that capture Korean narratives, such as "An Jung-geun, Dance in Heaven" and "May Wind." In a world where the Korean ballet industry has relied heavily on licensed foreign works, the company is promoting the uniqueness of Korean ballet on the global stage through original creations and reimaginings.

The M Ballet Company's "Don Quixote" reinterprets the traditional three-act structure into a two-act piece with a contemporary sensibility, featuring a fast-paced plot and powerful production. The performance blends diverse Spanish dance styles, including cédilia, flamenco, and hwandango, creating a dazzling spectacle. Above all, it reinterprets the protagonist, Don Quixote, not as an exaggerated dreamer, but as a supporter of a young couple's love, presenting the "true hero" that today's society desperately needs.

The performance will feature ballerinas Jung Yong-jae as Basilio and Choi Sol-ji as Kitria. Both are alumni of the Korea National University of Arts and have won prizes in international competitions. Having collaborated since last year's M Ballet Company's signature production, "An Jung-geun, Dance in Heaven," the two dancers are expected to showcase their exceptional skills and perfect chemistry on stage.

Park Jeong-sook, CEO of the Happy Buk-gu Cultural Foundation, said, "It is meaningful to be able to present high-quality classical ballet to local residents. I hope this will be an opportunity for them to experience the emotion of a full-length ballet and the elegance that only ballet can offer."
