민주당 의원들은 22일 기자회견을 열고 “사무국장이 중립을 지키기는커녕 의원들을 향해 막말과 고성을 퍼부으며 군림하려는 태도를 보였다”며 책임 있는 조치를 요구했다.

민주당 의원들에 따르면, 지난 19일 열린 제325회 임시회 본회의에서는 ‘포항시의회 의원 연구단체 구성 및 운영 조례’ 일부개정안이 상정됐다. 해당 안건은 정책개발비 지원 기준을 손질하는 내용을 담고 있었으나, 일부 의원들이 충분한 논의 부족과 심사보고서 미제출 문제를 제기하며 보류를 요구했다.

하지만 표결 과정에서 전자 투표시스템 재석 인원(28명)과 실제 발표 인원(30명)이 엇갈리는 오류가 발생했고, 미숙한 회의 진행이 도마 위에 올랐다. 이후 관련 질의를 요구한 민주당 의원들에게 장 사무국장이 “내가 왜 의원을 평가 못 하느냐” 등 발언을 하며 고성을 지른 것으로 알려졌다.

민주당 소속 의원들은 “포항시의회가 시민을 위한 본연의 기능을 회복하려면 이번 사태에 대한 명확한 책임 규명과 제도 개선이 반드시 뒤따라야 한다”고 강조했다.

이번 기자회견에는 김상민, 박희정, 박칠용, 김만호, 전주형, 최광열, 김은주 의원이 참석했다.
