이번 봉사활동에는 의장단과 상임·특별위원장, 오천읍 지역구 의원들이 함께 참여했으며, 의원들은 직접 배식과 잔반 처리, 설거지, 청소 등을 도우며 구슬땀을 흘렸다. 활동 후에는 급식소 관계자들과 간담회를 갖고 운영 과정에서의 애로사항을 청취하고 종사자들을 격려했다.

김일만 의장은 “작은 봉사활동이지만 어려운 이웃들과 마음을 나눌 수 있어 기쁘다”며, “앞으로도 시의회는 복지시설과 복지정책에 더 많은 관심을 두고 다양한 정책을 펼쳐 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 포항시의회는 지난해 7월 후반기 의회 출범 이후 관내 무료급식소를 순회 방문하며 봉사활동을 이어오고 있으며, 시민과 소통하는 따뜻한 열린 의회를 만들기 위해 노력하고 있다.
