보수는 단순히 특정 정당을 지지하는 태도가 아니다. 보수의 본질은 공동체를 지키는 책임, 국가와 지역의 지속 가능성을 고민하는 태도, 그리고 급격한 변화 속에서도 균형과 질서를 세우는 힘에 있다.

그렇다면 보수의 성지는 선거 결과로만 결정되는가. 아니면 시민의 삶을 지켜낸. 결과로 평가받아야 하는가.

지역의 현실은 녹록지 않다. 청년은 줄고, 고령화는 빠르다. 제조업은 활력을 잃고, 자영업은 과당 경쟁에 내몰려 있다. 소득 수준은 오랜 기간 정체되어 있다. 이런 상황에서 보수의 이름이 시민의 삶을 실질적으로 보호하지 못한다면, ‘성지’라는 표현은 무게를 잃는다.
