【브레이크뉴스 대구 】이성현 기자=오는 8일 대구경북합동연설회를 시작으로 본격적인 경선 레이스에 접어드는 국민의힘 전당대회. 국민의힘은 8월 22일 청주에서 마지막 합동 행사와 함께 당 대표를 비롯, 최고위원들을 선출한다. 

본격 레이스가 시작되는 이번 주 대구경북지역에는 출마 후보자들의 러시가 이어지는 가운데 지역 출신 당 지도부 선출에 대한 열망이 높아지는 것으로 관측된다. 이 가운데서도 청년 최고위원에 당원들이 관심을 나타내고 있다. 

지역 모 국회의원이 이번 ‘전대를 거꾸로 가는 전당대회‘라고 할 만큼 누가 당 대표가 되는지에 대한 관심은 시들해보인다. 다른 최고위원들에 대해서도 이전돠 달리 관심이 비교적 낮아보인다. 그러나 청년 최고위원만큼은 오히려 다른 지도부 선출보다 관심이 높아지는 기현상이 일어나고 있다. 

당 대표 및 최고위원 선출은 아무래도 그동안 노출이 많았거나, 개혁이나 혁신 등과는 거리가 좀 있는 인사들이 출마했다는 점과 선출이 되더라도 크게 무언가를 기대하기 쉽지 않다는 구조적 한계를 분명히 하고 있다는 점에서 관심 밖으로 밀리는 것 아니냐는 분석이다. 

지역 국민의힘 관계자는 “지금 우리 당이 무엇을 하기 위해 어떤 자세가 필요하고 어떤 비전이 필요한지에 대한 명확한 로드맵을 제시하고 있는 이들이 거의 없다. 있다손 치더라도 그들의 당내 환경은 공약을 약속이행으로 옮기기에 버거울 만큼 세력이 약하고, 정작 세력을 쥐고 있는 그룹의 인사들은 이념적, 계파적 한계에 부딪혀 정작 우리 당이 뚫고 나아가야 할 방향타(길)를 잃고 있다고 생각한다”고 말했다. 

이 인사는 그러면서 “이 상태로 당 대표가 누가 되든 우리 당의 미래에 희망을 이야기할 수 있겠나. 나를 비롯해 당원들도 쉽지 않다고 보고 있다. 그래서 청년의 목소리에 귀 기울여 보려는 것”이라며 “개혁과 혁신, 잘잘못에 대한 반성을 떳떳하게 말할 줄 아는, 그러면서 내일의 미래 비전을 주장할 줄 아는 패기, 그런 청년을 찾아 키우면서 당을 정비하자는...그렇게 아주 작은 희망을 당원들은 보고 싶어 한다”고 덧붙였다. 

여기에 “이왕이면 TK출신이 맡았으면 한다”는 말도 덧붙이고 있다. 국민의힘 대구시당 부위원장 출신의 고문 K 씨는 “당 대표는 몰라도 최고위원에는 TK 출신이 많이 포진됐으면 한다. 우리 당의 심장인 TK의 자존심이기도 하지만, 다른 지역 인사들에게 당을 맡겨놨더니 당을 못 쓰게 망쳐놨다. 당을 자신들의 사리사욕만 채우는 데 이용하고 있다”면서 “원래의 보수정당으로 돌아가야 한다. 그 역할을 TK 출신들이 해 줄 것이라고 믿고 싶다, 그리고 그렇게 해야만 한다”고 주장했다. 

실제, TK 정치권에서는 이같이 당의 혁신을 동반한 재건을 위해 지역 출신 인사를 선출해야 한다는 분위기가 심심찮게 감지되고 있다.   

TK 출신 주자들 누가 있나.

이번 전당대회에 출마하는 국민의힘 당 대표 후보로는 김문수, 안철수, 장동혁, 조경태, 주진우 의원 등이 있다. 안철수, 조경태 의원의 지향점은 각자의 유불리에 따라 다른 부분이 있지만 기본적으로는 겹치는 부분이 많은 듯 보인다. 당내 대표적인 쓴소리맨들이자 개혁파로 분류된다. 김문수, 장동혁, 주진우 후보 등은 특정한 세력을 등에 업고 있다고 보고 있다. 안철수 조경태의 당선을 예측하는 이들이 적은 상황인 것만큼이나, 일각에서는 국민의힘 변화가 힘들 것이라고 예견하는 이유로 이들 세 명(김문수,장동혁,주진우)의 성향 때문이란 분석도 있다. 또한 당원들조차 당 대표 선거에 큰 관심이 없다고 말하는 이유이기도 하다. 

이 가운데 TK출신으로 분류되는 인사는 없다. 김문수 후보가 경북 영천 출신이기는 하나, 지역에서조자 그를 굳이 TK출신으로 보는 경향은 낮은 듯하다. 오히려 대선 패배에 따라 출마보다는 쉬어야 한다는 목소리가 조금씩 더 커지고 있다.

최고위원에는 15명이 도전한다. 이 가운데 4명(박홍준, 손수조, 우재준, 최우성) 은 청년 최고위 후보들로 예비경선 없이 곧바로 본경선을 실시한다. 예비경선을 치르는 후보로는 김근식, 김민수, 김재원, 김태우, 손범규, 신동욱, 양향자, 장영하, 최수진, 함운경, 홍석준 등이 있다. 

TK 출신으로는 신동욱 의원, 김재원 전 최고위원, 홍석준 전 의원을 비롯해 청년 최고위원 후보로 우재준 의원과 최우성 사장 등이 있다. 

신동욱, 김재원, 홍석준 등의 인물이 TK출신이기는 하지만 당원들의 반응은 아직까지는 미온적이다. 김재원, 홍석준 전 의원은 인지도는 있지만, 당원들의 입에는 비중 있게 오르내리지 않는다. 인지도로 승부 보겠지만, 그들에게서 당의 비전을 보는 것 같지는 않다. 

청년 최고위원은 사정이 조금 다르다. 일단 청년들이 당에 쓴소리를 거침없이 해야 한다는 기대감과 더불어 그럼으로 변화를 이끌어 내는 주축이 되어달라는 간접적인 요구를 하는 모습들이 관측되고 있다. 당 대표 선거에 묻혀 인지도로만 선출됐던 이전과 많이 다른 양상이다. 그런 때문인지 합동연설회를 며칠 앞둔 대구 정치권에서는 이들 청년후보들의 프로필과 당 활동 상황을 확인하는 당원들이 많아지고 있다. 

당 관계자는 “우리 당은 사람을 키우는 데 너무 인색했다. 그런 과정이 이어지다보니 윤석열 전 대통령과 이번 대선과 같은 일들이 번번이 발생한 것”이라며 “우리 지역의 인재를 시기하고 질투만 할 게 아니라 그들을 제대로 길러내고 키워서 정치인 본연의 역할을 수행하는 인물로 만들어야 한다”고 강조했다.

He added, "If possible, I hope someone from TK will take the position." Advisor K, a former vice-chairman of the Daegu City chapter of the People Power Party, stated, "I don't know about the party leadership, but I hope to see many TK alumni in the Supreme Council. TK is the heart of our party, and it's also the pride of TK. But by entrusting the party to figures from other regions, they've ruined it. They're using it for their own selfish gains." He added, "We need to return to our original conservative party. I want to believe that TK alumni will fulfill that role, and we must."

Indeed, there's a growing sentiment within TK political circles that the party needs to elect a regional figure to achieve a revitalized and innovative revitalization.

Who are the TK alumni running for the party leadership?

The candidates running for the People Power Party leadership in this convention include lawmakers Kim Moon-soo, Ahn Cheol-soo, Jang Dong-hyuk, Cho Kyung-tae, and Joo Jin-woo. This also explains why even party members say they have little interest in the party leadership election.

None of these candidates are classified as having TK backgrounds. While Kim Moon-soo hails from Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, there seems to be little regional recognition of him as such. In fact, following his defeat in the presidential election, calls for him to take a break rather than run are growing louder.

Fifteen candidates are running for supreme council positions. Four of them (Park Hong-joon, Son Soo-jo, Woo Jae-joon, and Choi Woo-sung) are young candidates for the highest position, and will hold the main primary without a preliminary primary. Candidates running in the preliminary primary include Kim Geun-sik, Kim Min-soo, Kim Jae-won, Kim Tae-woo, Son Beom-gyu, Shin Dong-wook, Yang Hyang-ja, Jang Young-ha, Choi Soo-jin, Ham Woon-kyung, and Hong Seok-jun.

TK alumni include Representative Shin Dong-wook, former Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won, and former Representative Hong Seok-jun, while candidates for the youth Supreme Council member include Representative Woo Jae-jun and President Choi Woo-sung.

Despite the fact that Shin Dong-wook, Kim Jae-won, and Hong Seok-jun are TK alumni, the party's response has so far been lukewarm. While former Representatives Kim Jae-won and Hong Seok-jun are well-known, they are not mentioned significantly among party members. While their popularity will likely determine their future, it seems they do not see a vision for the party in them.

The situation is somewhat different for the youth Supreme Council members. A party official stated, "Our party has been too stingy in developing talent. This process has led to repeated incidents like former President Yoon Seok-yeol and this presidential election." He emphasized, "Instead of being envious and jealous of our region's talented individuals, we must properly nurture and develop them into individuals who fulfill their inherent roles as politicians."
