대구사이버대에 따르면 코로나19 확산 초반에 이어 최근 사회적 거리두기가 2.5단계로 장기화 되자 공연, 연극, 뮤지컬 등 공연예술인들은 물론 예술인 전체가 힘든 시기를 겪는 것으로 알려졌다.  

이에 대구사이버대학교는 경북지역 공연예술인들의 어려움 극복에 동참하고자 경북문화재단, 경북예총과 협약을 맺고 경북지역예술인에 대하여 산학협약장학금을 지급하기로 했다.

산학협약장학은 한 학기 수업료의 40%를 정규학기 내내 지원하며, 금액으로 환산하면, 18학점을 수강할 경우 한 한기 총수업료 126만원 중 40%인 50만 4천원을 장학금으로 지급하게 된다. 

대구사이버대는 정규대학으로 국가장학금 지급대상이므로 국가장학금까지 지급받게 되면 기초생활수급자부터 소득분위 6분위(월소득인정액 약 617만원 이하)까지는 전액장학이 적용되고, 7분위(약 713만원 이하)는 15만6천원, 8분위(약 950만원 이하)는 41만 8천원, 9분위와 10분위(약950만원 이상)는 75만 6천원만 내면 대학을 다닐 수 있다.  

대구사이버대학교는 재학생의 75%가 장학생으로 2019학년도 결산 기준 재학생이 자기가 직접 부담한 수업료는 평균 43만 7천원에 불과하다.  

이근용 총장은 “코로나19로 인해 모두들 어려움을 겪고 있는 예술인들을 위해 경북문화재단, 경북예총과 협약을 맺게 된 것에 대해 뜻깊게 생각한다”라며 “예술인들에게 굉장히 힘든 시기지만 부디 위축되지 않고 잘 이겨내실 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다 하겠다”고 밝혔다. 

한편 대구사이버대학교는 오는 2월 15일까지 재활과학부, 사회복지학부, 교육·행정학부, 창의공학부의 4개 학부 14개 학과에서 2021학년도 학생모집을 진행 중이다.
