국민의힘 송경창 (전) 경산시부시장이 10일 경산시선거관리위원회에 경산시장선거 예비후보자 등록을 마치고 ‘새로운 정부 - 행동하는 젊은 시장’이라는 기치를 내걸고 본격적인 선거운동에 돌입했다.

송 예비후보는 “오로지 경산 시민의 행복과 고향 경산의 미래만을 위해서 봉사하겠다는 신념으로 혁신과 열정으로 움직이는 도시 경산을 만들겠다.”고 각오를 밝혔다.

송경창 예비후보는 공무원이지만 공무원 같지 않은 기업가 정신을 지니고 있어 경제 및 과학통으로 불리고 있다. 특히, 스케일 큰 스타일과 강력한 추진력이 돋보이는 그는 공무원 정년을 약 6년 남겨두고 경산시장에 도전했다. 

송 예비후보의 강점이라면 28년간 공직생활을 통해 기획과 경제, 과학기술, 문화체육 등 다양한 분야를 두루 섭렵해 실무 감각이 뛰어난 멀티 플레이어라는 점이다. 

그는 이날 출마선언에서 가장 시급한 현안으로 코로나19 극복, 소상공인·자영업자 살리기 문제를 우선적으로 꼽았다. 이와 함께 4차 산업혁명과 새로운 정부 출범에 따른 혁신성장 전략 등을 제시해 눈길을 끌었다. 

한편, 송경창 경산시장 예비후보는 1967년 경산에서 태어나 경산삼성초등학교,자인중학교와 경북사대부고, 한양대 법학과를 졸업하고 제36회 행정고시로 공직에 입문했다. 내무부 지방자치기획단을 거쳐 경상북도 과학기술진흥과장, 정책기획관, 문화관광체육국장, 창조경제산업실장, 일자리경제산업실장, 포항시부시장, 경산시 부시장 등을 역임했으며 중앙부처와도 끊임없는 교류를 통해 많은 인맥을 쌓아 왔다.

제20대 대통령 선거에서는 국민의힘 전)윤석열 대통령 후보 중앙선거대책위원회 직능총괄본부 특위 민생경제특보와 조직총괄 희망특별본부 경북/경산 지역 단장을 맡았다.
