경산시는 지난달 28일 출범식을 시작으로 본격 진행된 서명운동에 시민들의 자발적인 참여가 이어지며 빠르게 확산됐다고 4일 밝혔다.

지난달 28일 경산산업단지복합문화센터에서 열린 출범식에는 조지연 국회의원, 조현일 경산시장, 도·시의원, 기업·기관 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석했다. 

이날 행사에서는 캘리그라피 퍼포먼스와 결의문 서명이 진행되며 서명운동의 공식 출발을 알렸다. 이후 전통시장, 주요 행사장, 시내 거리 등지에서 홍보 캠페인이 이어지며 참여 분위기가 확산됐다.

서명운동은 시청 홈페이지와 QR코드 기반 온라인 참여 방식과 함께 읍면동 행정복지센터, 전통시장 등 오프라인 창구를 병행 운영했다. 그 결과 직장인과 청년층, 자영업자, 노년층까지 다양한 세대와 계층이 참여했고, 단기간에 목표를 넘어서는 10만 명 이상의 서명이 모였다.

경산시는 이번 서명 결과를 국토교통부 등 중앙부처에 전달하고, ‘제3차 고속도로 건설계획(2026~2030)’에 경산~울산 구간을 반영해 줄 것을 공식 건의할 계획이다.

조지연 국회의원은 “단기간에 목표치가 달성된 것은 이번 사업이 지역주민에게 절박한 현안임을 보여주는 강력한 신호”라며 “정부와 협의를 강화해 반드시 국가계획에 반영될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

조현일 경산시장은 “이번 서명운동은 행정이 아닌 시민이 주도한 움직임이라는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “28만 시민의 뜻을 담아 국회 및 관계기관과 긴밀히 협의하며 사업 추진에 속도를 내겠다”고 밝혔다.

경산시는 오는 18일 경상북도·울산시 등과 고속도로 신설 촉구 공동선언을 추진할 예정이며, 이후에도 국회 논의 지원과 중앙정부 협의를 지속해 지역 여론 확산과 사업 타당성 확보에 나설 계획이다.

Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyun-il stated, "This signature campaign is significant because it is a citizen-led initiative, not an administrative one. We will work closely with the National Assembly and relevant agencies to expedite the project, reflecting the will of 280,000 citizens."

Gyeongsan City plans to promote a joint declaration urging the construction of a new highway with North Gyeongsang Province and Ulsan City on the 18th.
