7일 오후 4시 대교협 대회의실(서울 금천구 가산동)에서 열리는 홍원화 회장 취임식은 코로나 방역 상황을 고려하여 신·구회장단 중심으로 간소하게 진행된다.

홍원화 회장은 “캠퍼스가 최근 일상을 조금씩 회복하고 있지만 대학사회는 코로나 팬데믹보다 더 큰 문제인 4차 산업혁명, 기후변화 및 탄소중립, 저출산·고령화, 학령인구의 급감 등의 현실에 직면해 있다”며 “대학이 이러한 현실에 대응할 수 있기 위해서는 대교협이 부족한 대학재정, 불확실한 교육정책, 혁신을 가로막는 규제 등으로 촉발된 대학 위기 극복을 위해 많은 노력을 기울여야 한다.”고 강조했다.
이어 그는 “대학의 위기는 20여년 전부터 언급되어 왔으나, 문제는 여전히 해결되지 않고 있다”고 진단하며 “이를 위해 ▲고등교육 경쟁력 제고를 위한 재정 지원의 안정적 확보 ▲대학의 자율성 보장 및 대학 혁신을 유도하는 제도 개선 ▲지역균형발전의 구심점으로서의 대학 역할 수행을 위한 정책 제언 등의 노력을 기울이겠다”고 밝혔다.
아울러 그는 "앞으로 대교협은 정부, 지역사회, 국민들과 소통하며 고등교육 전반의 논의를 진행하겠다“고 다짐하며, ”급변하는 환경 속에서도 장기적인 비전을 가지고 각 대학들이 자율성을 바탕으로 우리나라의 미래를 위해 뜻이 모아지고 의지가 결합된다면 가능하다“고 덧붙였다.
