【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 달성군에 위치한 포산중학교(교장 성희경)가 국제 바칼로레아(IB) 중학교 프로그램(MYP) 공식 운영교로 IB 본부로부터 최종 승인을 받았다고 26일 밝혔다.

대구시교육청(교육감 강은희)은 2년째 IB 월드스쿨 후보 학교를 운영 중인 포산중학교가 지난 15일 공식 운영교로 최종 승인을 받아 이로써 IB PYP 7개교, MYP 4개교, DP 3개교의 총 14개의 IB 월드스쿨(2022.12.26.기준)을 보유한 전국 최선두의 IB 교육 실행 도시가 되었다고 전했다.

포산중학교는 IB 월드스쿨 인증을 기념해 학교는 26일 오후 1시 30분, ‘IB 월드스쿨 인증 기념행사와 수업공개’를 시행한다.

행사에는 강은희 교육감을 비롯하여 대구시의회 김원규 의원, 달성군의회 박영동 의원, 최재규 의원, IB MYP 인증 및 후보학교 교장단, 학생, 학부모, 교원이 참여한다.

이날 강은희 대구광역시 교육감은 “IB 교육이 포산중학교에 뿌리를 내린 것을 축하”하며 “아이들이 자기 주도적으로 탐구하면서 스스로 살아가는 힘, 세상을 바꾸는 힘을 가진 인재로 성장하는 것이 중요하다.”고 강조했다.

포산중학교는 지난 11월 21일과 22일, 이틀에 걸쳐 시행된 IB 월드스쿨 인증 심사 방문에서 IB MYP 월드스쿨 운영에 필요한 모든 국제적 기준을 갖추었다는 평가를 받고 12월 15일 월드스쿨로 공식 인증 받았다. 

포산중 1학년 신재민 학생은 “처음 중학교에 들어와서 IB 수업을 하면서 친구들과 협업을 통해 개념과 학습 내용을 탐구하는 것이 힘들었지만 즐거웠다. 수업을 하고 총괄 평가를 준비하면서 저 스스로 생각하는 힘이 커지고 발표ㆍ토의ㆍ토론, 글쓰기 능력이 점점 향상되는 것을 느껴 뿌듯했다.”라고 소감을 밝혔다.

성희경 교장은 “IB 월드스쿨 인증을 위해 힘써온 모든 교육 공동체 구성원에게 감사하며, 월드스쿨로서 품격에 걸맞게 학생들의 학업 성취와 국제적 역량 함양을 위해 힘쓰고 더욱 교육에 헌신하겠다.”라고 말했다.

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) announced that Posan Middle School, which has been operating an IB World School candidate school for the second year, received final approval as an official operating school on the 15th, resulting in a total of 14 IB World Schools, including 7 IB PYP schools, 4 MYP schools, and 3 DP schools. To commemorate Fosan Middle School's IB World School accreditation, the school will hold an 'IB World School Accreditation Celebration Event and Class Opening' at 1:30 pm on the 26th.

The event will be attended by Superintendent Kang Eun-hee, Daegu City Council member Kim Won-gyu, Dalseong-gun Council member Park Young-dong, member Choi Jae-gyu, IB MYP certified and candidate school principals, students, parents, and teachers.

On this day, Superintendent Kang Eun-hee of Daegu Metropolitan City said, “Congratulations on the fact that IB education has taken root in Fosan Middle School,” and emphasized, “It is important for children to explore on their own initiative and grow into talents with the power to live on their own and change the world.” .

Fosan Middle School was evaluated as having all the international standards required for the operation of the IB MYP World School during the IB World School certification examination visit conducted over two days, last November 21st and 22nd, and was officially certified as a World School on December 15th.

Shin Jae-min, a first-year student at Fosan Middle School, said, “It was difficult to explore concepts and learning contents through collaboration with friends while taking IB classes when I first entered middle school, but it was fun. While taking classes and preparing for the comprehensive evaluation, I felt proud that my ability to think for myself grew and my ability to present, discuss, and write gradually improved.”

Principal Hee-Kyung Seong said, “I thank all members of the educational community who have worked hard for IB World School accreditation, and as a world school, I will strive to improve students’ academic achievement and develop international competencies and devote myself to education more.”
