【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구시교육청(교육감 강은희)가 한국 최초 ‘2024년 국제 바칼로레아(IB) 글로벌 컨퍼런스(IBGC: International Baccalaureate Global Conference)’ 대구 유치를 성공하며 쾌거를 이뤘다.

22일, 대구시교육청이 2019년 처음으로 컨퍼런스 유치 의향을 밝힌 이후 4년 만에  호주 애들레이드에서 열린 2023년 IB 글로벌 컨퍼런스에서 아시아ㆍ태평양 지역 차기 개최지가 ‘대구’로 공식 발표되었다는 소식을 전했다.

2024년 3월 21일부터 24일까지 4일간 이어질‘2024 IB 글로벌 컨퍼런스’로 아시아ㆍ태평양 지역 IB 교육 전문가 1,500여 명이 대구를 찾을 예정이다.

 IB 글로벌 컨퍼런스는 엄격한 심사를 통해 아시아ㆍ태평양, 아메리카, 아프리카ㆍ유럽ㆍ중동 등 3곳의 나눠진 각각의 지역본부별로 국가를 선정하여 행사를 개최한다.

오는 2024년 IB 글로벌 컨퍼런스 유치에 다수의 국가들이 도전한 가운데 대구는 한국의 IB 프로그램 도입과 확산에 선도적인 역할을 하고 있다는 평가를 받으며 올리 페카 헤이노넨(Olli-Pekka Heinonen) IB 본부 회장 등 IB 본부 관계자들로부터 높은 점수를 얻은 것으로 알려진다.

강은희 교육감은 “IB 프로그램이 대구 공교육에 성공적으로 안착하고 확산된 것이 국제학술행사 유치로 이어져 기쁘다.”며 “2024년 IB 글로벌 컨퍼런스 개최를 통해 대구 IB 학교의 성공적인 사례를 국내외에 널리 알리고, 앞으로도 수업과 평가 혁신을 통해 미래 글로벌 인재를 양성하는데 선도적인 역할을 하도록 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) accomplished a feat by successfully hosting the 2024 International Baccalaureate Global Conference (IBGC) in Daegu for the first time in Korea.

On the 22nd, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education reported that Daegu was officially announced as the next venue for the Asia-Pacific region at the 2023 IB Global Conference held in Adelaide, Australia, four years after the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced its intention to host the conference for the first time in 2019.

About 1,500 IB education experts from the Asia-Pacific region will visit Daegu for the 2024 IB Global Conference, which will last for four days from March 21 to 24, 2024.

  The IB Global Conference selects a country for each of the three regional headquarters of Asia/Pacific, America, Africa/Europe, and the Middle East through strict screening to hold the event.

While many countries are challenging to host the 2024 IB Global Conference, Daegu has been evaluated as playing a leading role in introducing and spreading IB programs in Korea. It is known to have received high marks from the officials.

Kang Eun-hee, superintendent of education, said, “I am delighted that the IB program successfully settled and spread in public education in Daegu, which led to the hosting of an international academic event. We will strive to play a leading role in nurturing future global talent through innovation in education and evaluation.”
