영주시에 따르면  시는 빈집 증가로 도시미관과 주거환경 저해 및 다양한 사회적 문제를 유발하고 있어 체계적•효율적 대응을 위해 ‘빈집 및 소규모주택 정비에 관한 특례법’에 따라 지난 4월부터 관내 동 지역에 대해 빈집정비계획을 수립 추진해왔다.

이날 보고회에서는 올해부터 2027년까지 5개년에 걸쳐 도시미관을 저해하고 사회문제 발생 우려가 있는 빈집 124곳에 대해 총사업비 약 20억 원을 투자해 연차별로 정비할 계획을 제시했다.

시의 빈집현황을 보면 영주1동, 상망동, 하망동에 주로 분포돼 있으며, 빈집 밀집구역은 상망동 2개소, 하망동 1개소가 있다.

시는 인구유출 및 구도심과 신도심간의 도시 기반 및 편익시설 불균형 등으로 구도심에 빈집이 증가한 것으로 분석하고 있다.
