시에 따르면 이날 캠페인은 조관섭 경북안전체험관 영주시유치추진단장 비롯해 영주시, 소방서, 유치추진단 등 200여 명의 인원이 참석해 길거리 홍보활동 및 서명운동을 전개했다.

지난 7일 발대식을 가진 경북안전체험관 영주시 유치추진단은 영주시 소속 민·관·군·경·단체·기업·학교 등 다양한 분야의 범 시민적 조직으로 사업 홍보와 체험관 유치 서명운동을 추진하고 있다.

추진단은 5만명 서명을 목표로 각종 행사장을 방문해 시민의 참여를 유도하고 있다. 시민의 염원과 의지가 담긴 서명부는 오는 공모사업 신청 시 함께 전달될 예정이다.

시는 지난해 도내에서 가장 먼저 ‘안전체험관 설립 타당성 조사 연구용역’을 마치고 선비세상 일대 코레일 연수원과 연접한 부지를 대상으로 도시계획 등 관련법과 부지 개발 방향을 검토하고 있다.

해당부지는 공사 중인 코레일 인재개발원과 인접해 숙박과 주차시설이 확보돼 있고 도로 등 기반이 조성돼 있어 추가적인 사업 추진이 용이하고 향후 선비세상과 연계 활용이 가능하다는 장점이 있다.

시는 경북안전체험관이 유치되면 경북 북부 도민의 안전교육 및 체험을 위한 거점시설로 역할 뿐만 아니라 도내 균형발전에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

또한, 타 지역을 연계하는 광역교통 인프라(KTX, 중앙고속도로 등)가 잘 갖춰져 있고 부석사와 소수서원과 같은 풍부한 문화유산을 바탕으로 경제활성화의 시너지 효과를 기대할 수 있어 영주가 안전체험관 건립 최적지라는 입장이다.
