이에 따라 대규모 관광사업(투자금액 1천억 원 이상 또는 상시 고용인원 200명 이상) 투자에 대한 보조금 한도가 기존 최대 60억 원(투자금액 5% 내)에서 최대 200억 원(투자금액 10% 내)으로 상향됐다.

보조금 지원 대상은 ‘관광진흥법’ 제2조제1호에 따른 관광사업(관광유흥음식점업 등 일부 업종 제외)이며, 원활한 기업활동 지원을 위해 주변 기반시설 설치도 지원한다.

현재 경상북도 및 도내 22개 시군의 관광사업에 대한 투자유치 보조금 지원 한도는 대부분 50억 원 정도에 머물러 있어, 영주시의 지원 규모는 파격적 인센티브로 평가된다.

이번 보조금 샹향으로 문화·건강·스포츠산업을 아우르는 관광거점 조성을 위해 추진 중인 ‘영주댐 주변 관광자원 개발사업’ 등 대규모 사업에 민간 자본 유치가 한층 활성화될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

또한 대규모 관광사업 유치로 방문객 등 생활인구 증가로 지역경제 활성화는 물론 지방소멸 위기에 대응하는 계기가 될 것으로 전망된다.
