13일 경상북도가 개최한 개통식에는 이철우 경북도지사, 임종득 제22대 국회의원 당선인, 박남서 영주시장, 최명서 영월군수를 비롯한 각 지역 의원과 기관단체장, 지역주민 등 500여 명이 참석했다.

단산~부석사간 도로는 길이 10.45km로 총사업비 1천285억 원이 투입됐다. 지난 2016년 8월 1일 공사가 시작돼 지난 4월 임시개통을 했고 13일 정식으로 개통됐다.

특히 3.03km에 이르는 마구령터널 개통으로 부석면 임곡리에서 부석면 남대리까지 이동시간이 30분 가량 줄어든다. 터널을 통과하면 국가지원지방도 28호선을 통해 강원도 영월군과 충북 단양군으로 바로 연결된다.

영주시는 이번 도로 개통에 따라 지역 주민 및 관광객의 접근성이 크게 개선돼 지역경제가 활성화될 것으로 전망했다.

박남서 영주시장은 “마구령 터널 개통을 위해 많은 협조와 격려를 아끼지 않으신 관계자 여러분께 영주시민을 대표하여 감사드린다”며 “마구령 터널이 우리의 밝은 미래를 향한 첫걸음이 되어, 3도가 함께 새로운 발전을 향해 쭉쭉 뻗어나가기를 기원한다”고 전했다.
