12일 영주시에 따르면 영주시보건소에 신설된 감염병관리과는 담당업무의 효과적 수행을 위해 감염병관리팀, 감염병대응팀, 의약관리팀, 예방접종팀, 진료민원팀, 검진팀 등 세분화된 6개 전문팀으로 구성·운영된다.

감염병 관리 종합대책 수립 및 시행, 의료기관 연계를 통한 상시감시체계 운영, 의료협의체 등 유관기관 협업체계 구축, 감염병 신속 대응과 사후관리 및 예방사업 등의 업무를 담당한다.

최근 기후 온난화와 해외 유입 신·변종 감염병 다양화로 코로나19 종식 이후에도 감염병 대응 지휘 본부 역할을 할 전담부서의 필요성이 제기돼 왔다.

아울러 감염병의 대유행은 주기가 짧아지고 신종 감염병 대응이 일상화될 것으로 예측되는 시대적 상황과 주민의 건강과 생명을 지키고 ‘함께하는 행복도시’ 건설을 위한 민선8기 영주시의 의지가 반영됐다는 평가다.
