3일 영천시에 따르면 지난 1월 30일 경상북도 축제심의위원회가 도내 13개 시·군의 대표 축제를 평가한 결과 ‘영천보현산별빛축제’가 우수 축제로 선정되어 7000만원의 지원금을 확보했다.

영천보현산별빛축제는 청정자연이 선물하는 최고의 밤하늘과 보현산 일대의 천문과학 인프라를 활용해 ‘별의도시-영천’을 알리는데 앞장서 왔다. 별빛을 테마로 한 축제들이 전국 곳곳에서 다양하게 펼쳐지고 있으며 그 중에서도 지난 20년 동안 고유한 지역정체성을 유지하면서 도시브랜드 향상에 기여한 축제가 바로 영천보현산별빛축제이다.

2004년 처음 보현마을에서 시작한 별빛축제는 올해 20회를 맞이한다.

 최근 MBC<나혼자산다>전현무, 화사의 별자리관측 에피소드, tvN<알쓸인잡>의 주목받는 천문학자 심채경 등 인기 예능프로그램을 통해 천체관측에 대한 대중적 관심이 날로 증가하고 있다.

영천 화북면에 위치한 보현산천문대는 국내 최대 규모 1.8m직경의 광학망원경을 갖추고 있는데 바로 이 망원경이 우리가 사용하고 있는 만원권 지폐 뒷면에 그려져 있다.

또 영천에는 별빛테마마을, 별빛 야영장 등 체류형 관광시설과 별테마 콘텐츠, 보현산댐 짚와이어, 모노레일, 보현산자연휴양림, 약초식물원, 출렁다리 등 보현산권역 관광벨트가 연계 운영되고 있다.

영천보현산별빛축제는 보현천문대, 천문과학관, 보현산권관광벨트 등 지역민과 방문객이 문화와 콘텐츠로 서로 소통하고 화합할 수 있는 환경을 갖추고 있다.

올해 별빛축제는 현장과 온라인을 결합해 현장체험프로그램을 강화해 축제 본연의 기능을 회복하고 전국어린이골든벨, 랜선별 관측, 그림엽서공모전 등 전국대상프로그램은 온라인으로 동시 진행해 참여율확대와 콘텐츠의 질적 향상을 이루고자 한다.

영천보현산별빛축제는 원시별, 블랙홀, 태양 등 매해 변화된 천문관련 주제을 가지고 진행되었다. 올해는 붉은 하늘, 푸른 석양을 가진 지구와 닮은 듯 다른 별, 화성을 테마로 준비할 계획이다. 이와 관련해 화성을 주제로 한 주제관을 설치하고 화성을 테마로 한 과학, 우주체험과 강연 프로그램 등도 운영할 예정이다.

별빛축제의 특화된 프로그램인 누워서 별보기, 스타파티-별관측, 천문학강의도 새로운 단장을 통해 방문객들을 맞을 예정이며 특히 올해는 드론과 몰입형 미디어아트로 별의 바다를 구현하는 등 시민들에게 다양한 볼거리를 제공할 계획이다.
