26일 포항테크노파크에 따르면 이번 협약을 통해 3개 기관은 그린바이오 첨단기술을 활용한 차세대 푸드테크산업 활성화를 위하여 함께 협력할 예정이다.

㈜진셀바이오텍(대표이사 권태호)은 식물세포 및 효모 등을 활용한 독보적 플랫폼 기술을 활용하여 단백질 기반의 생물의약품 및 소재를 전문적으로 개발,생산해온 기업으로, 작년부터 배양육 전용 성장인자 등 소재 개발에 적극적인 투자를 통해 신규 사업모델을 구축하고 있으며,

㈜씨위드(대표이사 이희재)는 한우세포를 활용하여 한우 배양육을 개발하고 있는 스타트업 기업으로, 특히 자체 개발한 해조류 기반의 세포배양 지지체 기술 및 무혈청배지 기술은 가격 경쟁력 뿐 만 아니라 기후변화 등 환경적 이슈에도 적극 대응할 수 있다는 점에서 큰 주목을 받고 있는 기업이다.

배양육 기술은 미래 식품산업 중요 자원으로서 전 세계적 관심을 받고 있는 분야로 2020년 싱가포르에서 세계 최초의 배양육 제품이 판매를 시작된 이후, 작년 11월에 이어 올해 3월까지 미국 FDA가 연달아 배양육 관련 안전성을 승인함으로써, 관련 업계의 상용화 움직임이 더욱 활발해지고 있는 상황이다.

배양육 산업 육성을 위해서 성장인자와 같은 단백질 소재가 필수적이며, 안전성과 품질 기준 그리고 가격 경쟁력까지 갖춘 소재의 개발을 위해 ㈜진셀바이오텍과 같은 그린바이오 기업의 역할이 더욱 중요해질 것으로 예상된다.

㈜진셀바이오텍과 ㈜씨위드 양사는 포항테크노파크 그린백신실증지원센터 입주기업으로, 이번 협약을 계기로 ㈜씨위드는 그린백신실증지원센터 내 오픈이노베이션 센터를 개소하여 ㈜진셀바이오텍 등 그린바이오 기업과 배양육 소재개발과 산업 경쟁력 강화를 위한 협력체계를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

그린백신실증지원센터의 김도영 센터장은 “그린백신실증지원센터는 국내 유망 그린바이오 벤처기업 육성을 위한 거점기지 역할을 하고 있다.”라며, “이번 업무협약이 차세대 푸드테크 산업 활성화를 위한 마중물이 되길 바라며, 향후 그린바이오 벤처 캠퍼스(2025년 준공 예정) 등 포항의 그린바이오 산업화 인프라와의 연계를 통해 그린바이오 기업 유치 및 지역 경제 활성화를 위해 모든 역량을 투입하겠다.”라고 말했다.
